Happy Tuesday! I have a confession to make: I am completely addicted to A&W lately. They just keep sending us those irresistible mailer coupons, and honestly, who am I to say no to a great fast-food deal?
That said, the real reason for our little fast-food excursion over to the Robson Street location right by the Vancouver Public Library this evening was to finally try their much-talked-about Smashburger. It was a quick stop right after work, and my very first time ordering one! As Hubby correctly pointed out while we unboxed our meal, we don't actually have a baseline comparison for what truly makes a "perfect" smash burger. We were going into this tasting completely fresh!

When you get your hands on it, it comes served on a wonderfully soft, glossy brioche-style bun with melted cheddar cheese, a signature secret sauce, tangy pickles, and a crisp slice of fresh onion peeking out from underneath the meat.
However, when comparing it directly against A&W's existing burger family, I think I will comfortably stick to their traditional non-smash versions in the future (at least at A&W). It was a fun taste test, but the nostalgic charm and juicy texture of their classic line-up still hold the crown for me.

If you are wondering how much the new A&W Smashburger costs in Canada, there is actually a bit of a digital puzzle behind it! While the regular à la carte menu price sits at $7.99, we noticed a massive hack when ordering through the mobile app.

However, because these mobile offers rotate constantly, the app can revert back to its standard $7.99 regular price at any moment!
*Note: It did crack us up a little bit to look at the receipt later and realize that our side of classic onion rings actually cost more than the brand-new headline burger itself!
It was a fun taste test for a quick after-work treat, but the nostalgic charm of a classic Teen Burger still holds top tier status for us.
