Esquite from La Esquiteria food cart

When we visited Mexico City (CDMX) last June, one of the absolute best street foods we tried was esquite, or corn in a cup. We've been dreaming about it ever since!

Tonight, as we were taking a cold winter walk to see the holiday lights at St. Paul's, we suddenly spotted a food cart called La Esquiteria! You know we had to stop and give it a try immediately.

We ordered the classic Esquite and it was truly delicious! It uses the same white corn and comes mixed with broth and mayo. Instead of traditional cotija cheese, they use feta, which provided a similar satisfying salty, crumbly texture.

The only difference from the CDMX version is the spice. In Mexico City, they add a spicy chili powder by default, but here at La Esquite, I had to do it myself and choose which specific spice to add. Even with that minor difference, holding that warm cup on a perfect cold winter evening was heavenly. What a great find on our holiday stroll!
