Verdict: A simple, really good burger made with quality Australian beef and fresh lettuce and tomatoes. I think it beats Grill'd, and the bare, no-bun version works great too.

For Tuesday dinner, we decided to try Betty's Burgers on Elizabeth Street, and we both ordered Betty's Classic. The only difference? I got mine bare, with no bun, wrapped in crisp lettuce instead.

It's so good. The Betty's Classic ($14.50) is a simple burger done well: a juicy, well-seared patty of high quality Australian beef, melty cheese, fresh crisp lettuce and juicy tomato. I think it's better than the Simply Grill'd I had at Grill'd, the office's go-to for burger team lunches, when I was here in 2024.

Bare Betty's Classic: all the flavour, wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun.

Betty's Classic on a toasted bun: simple, fresh and good.

We also shared a serving of their golden, crispy regular fries ($6.50) and a creamy caramel shake ($6.80). It's a simple, honest burger, and I'd happily come back.

Prices are in AUD.
