Happy Wednesday! This is our third café in Melbourne, and we spotted it completely at random while walking around the CBD before 7:00 AM. When the city is that quiet and you can smell fresh espresso from half a block away, you just follow your nose. That is how we ended up at Paper Tiger Espresso on Queen St.
The Coffee
We stuck with the same drink set as our previous Melbourne stops. I went for my usual smooth, chocolatey mocha ($6.00), and it arrived with a pretty heart on top. Hubby ordered a creamy, silky flat white ($4.80).

The Breakfast
I ordered the hearty bacon and egg wrap ($12.19). It was good, with crispy bacon and a soft fried egg tucked into a warm, toasted wrap, but I found the sweet sauce a bit too much for my taste. If you like a sweeter, tangy kick in your breakfast wrap, you will probably love it. I would ask for a little less sauce next time.

Hubby went for the warm, toasty ham and cheese toastie ($8.50), and honestly, it is hard to go wrong with this one. Melty cheese, savoury ham and crisp, golden sourdough-style bread is a classic for a reason, and it is also the better value of the two.

Final Thoughts
Paper Tiger Espresso is a lovely little discovery for an early start in the CBD, and I always enjoy finding spots by wandering instead of planning. Order the toastie, and maybe go light on the sauce if the wrap is calling your name. Prices are in AUD.
Café number three is done, and Melbourne's coffee scene is already winning us over. Do you have a favourite hidden-gem café you stumbled upon by accident? Tell me in the comments, because we are collecting recommendations for the rest of our trip!
