South Melbourne Market Food Guide: Dim Sims, Bôrek, Cannoli & Hot Jam Donuts (2026)

South Melbourne Market

Location: 322-326 Coventry St, South Melbourne VIC 3205, Australia

Featured Items: South Melbourne Dim Sims ($4 each), Cheese and Chicken Bôrek ($7 each), Juicello Green Revive and Pine Twist ($12.50 each, large), Cannoleria Sicilian Cannoli ($7), Hot Jam Donut ($3)

Note: We had two hours to graze before our Penguin Parade tour pickup, so we followed the lines. Prices are in AUD.

Verdict: The steamed dim sims and the cannoli were my favourites. The hot jam donut was the sweetest little steal.

Happy Sunday! We have another long day planned today. We started with 8:00 AM Sunday Mass at St. Francis, then debated whether to grab breakfast, lunch or both in the city before our Penguins Parade Tour pickup at 11:50 AM. From 9 to 11, we decided to explore South Melbourne Market.

Of course, I have no idea what to try, so we were kind of winging it and seeing which stalls had a line.

South Melbourne Dim Sims ($4 each)

We started with the famous South Melbourne Dim Sims. These are huge, juicy dumplings, and the savoury meat filling reminds me of xiao long bao without the soup. They are delicious. We got them both fried and steamed, and I preferred the plump steamed ones. Go for those. At $4 each, it is such a steal!

Cheese and Chicken Bôrek ($7 each)

Then we headed to the food hall area and picked up a plain cheese bôrek and a chicken bôrek, which are Turkish pastries at $7 each. The cheese one is stuffed with creamy feta. It is a bit oily and flaky, yet heavy at the same time, and I found the salty feta too much for my liking.

The chicken bôrek had a lot more flavour for me, with tender, savoury chicken covered in a tangy tomato sauce.

Juicello Fresh Juices ($12.50 each, large)

We walked back near the dim sims for refreshments from Juicello. I got the Green Revive, a fresh green juice that is perfectly sweet thanks to the crisp apples, with a little bitterness from the leafy spinach and kale. It feels so healthy!

Hubby went all in on the sweet, citrusy Pine Twist, made with juicy pineapple and orange juice. It is so refreshing.

Cannoleria Sicilian Cannoli ($7)

For sweets, we stopped by Cannoleria, where a single cannoli is $7. There are so many filling options, and we decided to go for the Sicilian. The creamy ricotta filling is not overly sweet, and the crunchy pastry shell has the perfect texture, neither too flaky nor too dry. They are excellent.

Hot Jam Donut ($3)

As we were about to walk back to our hotel, we spotted what looked like a food truck with a big Hot Jam sign. You know I will never pass up a chance to get hot jam donuts for hubby to try. These warm, sugar-dusted donuts are so much better than the ones we got from Queen Victoria Market during the Melbourne Donut Festival. They are $3 each, fresh from the fryer and filled with sweet, slightly tart raspberry-style jam. All delicious.

Final Thoughts

South Melbourne Market is a fun place to graze if you are not sure what to eat. Follow the lines, share a few bites and save room for dessert. If I had to pick, go for the steamed dim sims and the Sicilian cannoli. Prices are in AUD.
