Verdict: The toastie is the winner with an excellent cheese pull. The Breakfast Carbonara is not what we expected.
Happy Sunday! It was raining relatively heavily, but we still made it to 8:00 AM Mass at St. Francis' Church in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. It is Melbourne's oldest Catholic church, with its foundation stone laid in 1841, and it is such a beautiful place to start the day. Afterwards, we did laundry, and while waiting, we grabbed brunch at Brunetti Oro on Flinders Lane.
Breakfast Carbonara ($26.90)
I got the Breakfast Carbonara ($26.90), and I have no idea why I thought it would be pasta with two eggs, haha. It turns out to be a giant piece of crispy fried bread topped with two soft poached eggs, crispy bacon, shaved parmesan, fresh microgreens and a tiny bit of creamy carbonara sauce. It looks beautiful, but it was not what I expected, and it was the pricier of our two dishes.

Ham, Cheese & Tomato Toastie ($13.90)
Hubby got the HCT (ham, cheese and tomato) toastie ($13.90), which is actually the better of the two food items we got. The stretchy, gooey cheese pull is excellent, and there is something so satisfying about perfectly golden, buttery toasted bread with melted cheese and savoury ham tucked inside.

The Coffee
We also got our usual order of a velvety mocha and a smooth latte, and both drinks are $5.70 each. The mocha came dusted with cocoa powder, and the latte had a lovely rosetta pattern on top.

Final Thoughts
This was one of our more expensive breakfasts in Melbourne, but sitting down to eat slowly while it rains heavily outside is a blessing. If you go, order the toastie and manage your expectations for the carbonara, because it is fried bread and not pasta. Prices are in AUD.
Have you ever ordered something that turned out to be completely different from what you imagined? Tell me in the comments, because I clearly need to read menus more carefully!
