Verdict: Quick and convenient. The egg & chive was the better of the two.

Our tour had a little hiccup today. The suspension (?) for one of the wheels broke and the bus was unsafe to drive, so we arrived roughly half an hour late to the Penguin Parade Visitor Centre.

We got there around 7:30 in the evening and rushed to find dinner. We quickly grabbed a couple of sandwiches from the cafe. I got the egg & chive while hubby went for the ham, cheese & pickle.

Ham, Cheese & Pickle Sandwich ($15)

Hubby's sandwich was stacked with sliced ham, mild cheese and tangy pickle on soft white bread. It did the job when we were in a rush, but it was the less exciting of the two.

Egg & Chive Sandwich ($15)

We quickly devoured our sandwiches, and of the two, the egg & chive is better. It is filled with creamy egg salad and fresh chives on soft brown bread.

Watching the Penguins

After quickly finishing our dinner, we walked outside to the boardwalk and platform to wait for it to get dark, so we could watch the penguins pop up out of the water a group at a time. As we slowly walked back to the visitor centre, we saw penguins waddling adorably by the grass, and we even got to see a few up close. So cool!

You are not allowed to take photos of them, since the blue light from a phone camera may damage their eyesight even without flash. I would rather keep these adorable little penguins safe, so there are no penguin photos here. Thank God for this experience. We arrived back in the city half an hour before midnight.

Final Thoughts

If your tour runs late like ours, the cafe at the visitor centre is a handy way to grab dinner in a hurry. Go for the egg & chive. Prices are in AUD.
