Fried Chicken & Doughnuts: A Smooch-Worthy First Trip to Duffin’s Donuts

A Valentine’s First: The Legendary Duffin’s Donuts

After nine years of living in Vancouver, I finally experienced the legend of Duffin’s Donuts. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, hubby suggested we finally make the trip. It felt like a long-overdue smooch-worthy date. We took the Number 8 bus to Fraser Street and walked the rest of the way, building up a healthy appetite for what I knew would be a sinful but joyful meal.

Practical Bites & Prices

The energy inside was vibrant, with a constant stream of people and many Filipino families enjoying classic combinations. Here is what we shared at this busy corner spot:

  • Sugar Raised Donut ($2.00): This was a soft donut covered in plain white sugar. It was simple and exactly what I needed.
  • Chocolate Peanut Donut ($2.00): This nutty treat reminded me of the iconic Choco Butternut flavours from back home in the Philippines.
  • Roast Beef, Turkey, and Ham Sub ($8.29): Per Gemini’s smart suggestion, I chose this fresh sub. It was a winning mix of savoury deli meats and tangy mustard.
  • 3-piece Spicy Fried Chicken & Fries ($10.29): The chicken was juicy and crispy, served alongside salty fries.

Sugar Raised and Chocolate Peanut Donuts ($2.00 each): A sweet start to our Valentine’s date. The simple, soft sugar donut was exactly what I craved, while the nutty Chocolate Peanut donut was a beautiful nod to the Choco Butternut flavours of home in the Philippines.

3-piece Spicy Fried Chicken & Fries ($10.29): The legendary crunch of Duffin's. The chicken was incredibly juicy with just the right amount of heat, paired with perfectly salty fries—truly a savoury, smooch-worthy discovery.

Roast Beef, Turkey, and Ham Sub ($8.29): A winning cross-section of fresh deli meats and tangy mustard. This was a smart balance to our sweeter bites, helping me stay mindful of my healthy goals while still fully enjoying the celebration.

A Sentimental Walk Home

While we enjoyed our crunchy fries, I couldn't help but notice many tables ordering their chicken with warm rice and rich gravy. It felt like a missed opportunity for a tender nod to growing up with Jollibee, but it just gives us a reason to return. To balance our indulgent afternoon, hubby and I took a brisk 5km walk home under the Vancouver sky. It was the perfect way to honour a wonderful day. To God be the glory for sweet memories and strong legs!
