Purebread Vancouver Review: A Smooch-worthy Buckwheat Cherry Scone

A Monday Surprise from Purebread

Quick Look: Purebread Vancouver remains a top-tier choice for indulgent pastries. While the Buckwheat Cherry Scone is a moist, "smooch-worthy" standout, we recommend arriving early for savoury items like the Bacon & Egg Brioche to catch them at their freshest.

My Monday took a sweet turn when my husband stepped out to drop off a letter at our realtor’s office. Just three blocks away, he found himself drawn into Purebread, returning with a little paper bag that turned our ordinary afternoon into a celebrated afternoon tea break. There is something so lovely about sharing a treat; a quiet moment of appreciation for a pastry well-made.

The Sweet: Buckwheat Cherry Scone

I will admit, I am often "scone-shy" in Vancouver; so many versions here miss the mark. But this Buckwheat Cherry Scone was a revelation. The exterior held a delicate, glazed crispness that gave way to an interior so surprisingly soft and moist. While my heart still belongs to the scones of Dublin, this is easily the most "smooch-worthy" version I have found locally. It felt like a rare, rustic hug in pastry form.

The Savoury: Bacon & Egg Brioche

On the savoury side, a little kitchen mishap led us to the Bacon & Egg Brioche. While the flavours were classic, the brioche had lost some of its morning magic by the afternoon, leaning a bit toward the stale side. I suspect that caught fresh from the oven at 8:00 AM, this flaky roll would be a total showstopper.

Smooch Food Pro-Tip: To experience the brioche at its best, aim for a morning visit.

The Details

  • Location: Purebread (Various locations, Vancouver)
  • The Damage: $17.00 (Includes two pastries, tax, and tip)

While $17 for two treats is certainly an indulgence, the joy of a slow Monday afternoon made every cent feel like an investment in a good mood.

It was not just about the sugar or the salt; it was about the thoughtfulness of a surprise and the reminder that even a quick walk to the realtor's office can end in something delicious. Until the next bite, I will be dreaming of that buckwheat crumb.
