There is a specific kind of peace and joy that happens when you walk the Vancouver seawall, especially when the air is crisp and the conversation is meaningful. This evening was spent with Tech2Step, a brilliant networking event that replaces stiff boardrooms with the open air of False Creek.
What is Tech2Step? It’s a recurring walking networking event in Vancouver where tech professionals and newcomers connect while strolling the seawall. It’s a low-pressure space for mentorship and sharing stories.
It is a cause close to my heart, reminding me of the hurdles of navigating a career in a new country and the joy of now being able to encourage others on that same path.
After a long, fulfilling walk, hubby and I went to Save-On-Foods in Olympic Village for a quiet Lenten Friday dinner. While the aisles were buzzing with the usual grocery rush, we found a little sanctuary at the deli counter.
The Smooch-Worthy Moment
The highlight wasn't just the food, but the hospitality. When we picked out a Tuna Sandwich, the lovely person behind the counter offered to warm it up without us even asking. That small, proactive gesture felt like a warm hug. It transformed a simple deli find into a cozy, toasted Friday night treat.

The Dinner for Two
Tuna Sandwich ($6.99): Simple, classic, and significantly elevated by the press. It’s a budget-friendly win when you need something meat-free and comforting during Lent.
California Veggie Roll ($11.49 for 12 pieces): This set comes with 4 avocado rolls, 4 yam rolls, and 4 avo-yam rolls. While the presentation doesn't quite beat the T&T version, the creaminess of the avocado does the heavy lifting here. It’s a reliable, filling option even if it isn't the most photogenic "California" roll in the city.

Ending the week with a sense of purpose and a warm meal—that is what Smooch Food is all about. Sometimes the most memorable bites come from the simplest gestures in a grocery store aisle.
