Slo Granville: Non-Alcoholic Irish Coffee and the Perfect Lox Bagel

Our team hosted a global event to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day today. We're doing the festivities a day late because our Cork office was closed for the public holiday yesterday. After an early "brinner" catch-up with our team in Ireland, the three of us in Vancouver headed out for some fresh air and to grab breakfast.

We specifically chose Slo because they are the only spot nearby with an Irish coffee (non-alcoholic) on the menu. The space inside is minimalist and clean, mirroring the serious and all-business vibe of the staff. It is not exactly warm or welcoming, but it has the perfect pace for people on-the-go.

While my colleague visits weekly for their pour-over, this was my first time seeing if the food matched the steady pace of the room.

The Morning Menu

The menu at Slo is streamlined and focused on the basics. We decided to try the signature items to see how they stacked up for a busy Wednesday morning.

  • The Lox Bagel: This was the standout bite of the morning. It came on a plain bagel with a perfectly toasted, crunchy exterior. The juicy tomato slices and briny capers provided a bright balance to the savoury smoked salmon ($12).

  • Slo Irish Coffee: This is a clever non-alcoholic take on the classic. It lacks the whiskey but features a tart aftertaste that mimics the spirit bite perfectly. It’s an intriguing drink with a sharp finish that lingers ($7.50).

The Team Favourites

For those who want something hearty but typical, my colleagues often grab the Bacon Sando ($9). It’s a classic English muffin build with a smoky paprika baked egg.

Slo might be a bit intimidating for a long, chatty brunch, but for a crisp office morning, the intentional quality of the food makes it a solid choice on Granville.
