Welcoming the Newest Team Member at Browns Socialhouse (QE Theatre)
Tuesday lunch took us a few blocks over to Browns Socialhouse. We were welcoming a new colleague to the team today, and since our office is so close to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, this location was the perfect choice for a celebratory midday break.
I have always appreciated the "Socialhouse" vibe for work lunches. It strikes that tricky balance because it is polished enough for a professional welcome, yet casual enough that you actually feel like you are getting a mental reset from the desk. The atmosphere near the theatre is always a bit buzzy, and that helped keep the conversation flowing as we got to know our newest team member.

The Meal: Blackened Chicken Cowboy Salad
When it came time to order, I went with one of my absolute favourites: the Blackened Chicken Cowboy ($23). To make it a bit more substantial, I added extra avocado (+$3.25), and it was worth every penny.
This is not just a side salad pretending to be a meal. It is a massive bowl of house greens packed with edamame, corn, black beans, and salty feta. The real magic is in the textures. You get that satisfying crunch from the walnuts and garlic croutons, which is balanced perfectly by the sweetness of the dates and the zesty honey lime vinaigrette.
The blackened chicken was perfectly seasoned. It gave the dish a nice kick that was not too overwhelming for a midday meal. It is the kind of lunch that leaves you feeling full and energized.
It is funny how much can change in a few years. Sitting on the patio today reminded me of a team lunch we had here back in 2024 when our HR visited from Melbourne and I was all about their Little Nachos. Even last November, I was right in the middle of a serious Smokehouse Burger phase.
Today, welcoming our newest colleague, it felt right to lean into the fresh textures of the Cowboy salad. It seems like no matter what "phase" I am in, this spot remains our reliable team anchor.
Location: 688 Cambie St, Vancouver (Near QE Theatre)
The Order: Blackened Chicken Cowboy Salad with extra Avocado
Total Price: $26.25 (before tax and gratuity)
Smooch Food Tip: If you can time your lunch for closer to 1:00 pm, you can usually beat the heaviest part of the rush. Grab a table on the patio to soak up that beautiful Vancouver spring sunshine while you eat!
Whether you are looking for a reliable team lunch spot or a quick bite before a show at the QE Theatre, this Browns location is a downtown staple for a reason. It was a lovely way to kick off the first week for our new colleague.
What is your go-to work lunch that keeps you powered through the day? Have you tried the Cowboy salad at Browns yet? Let me know in the comments!
