Little Ongpin to the Rescue: A Filipino Feast in Richmond, BC

Plans for my brother’s birthday changed fast today. We wanted to order from Peaceful Restaurant in Richmond, but they were closed. We called our trusty Little Ongpin instead. It turned out to be the perfect choice.

The Little Ongpin Food

We ordered all our favourite Filipino dishes and the food was delicious:

  • Lumpiang Shanghai: These are the best in Metro Vancouver. They are extra crispy and always a hit at family dinners.

  • Inihaw na Liempo: This was so good. You can really taste the calamansi and soy sauce from the marinade. It was savoury, tangy, and grilled just right.

That calamansi and soy sauce marinade makes this Liempo absolutely irresistible.

  • Java Chicken: I love the charred bits on this chicken. They add so much flavour.

You can't beat those smoky, charred bits on the Java Chicken!

  • Lechon Kawali and Chopsuey: The pork belly was very crunchy. The Chopsuey was fresh and balanced out the heavy meat.

Look at that crackle! Nothing says a Filipino birthday like a plate of Lechon Kawali.

Mama’s Spaghetti and Cake

Mama also made her Filipino-style spaghetti. We love it because it is sweet and comforting. My sister’s Canadian fiance even said it is better than Jollibee! That is a huge compliment.

For dessert, my sister brought a cake from Sweet Obsession. Their cakes are always good and made for a sweet end to our meal.

A Big Win for the Whitecaps

After eating, we watched the Whitecaps play Portland. It was a very close game. The Whitecaps won 3-2 in added time. It was an exciting way to finish the birthday.

Even though our first plan did not work out, the day was great. Good food, home cooking, and a big win made it a birthday to remember.

Love Little Ongpin?

I have visited this Richmond staple many times! If you are planning your own feast, check out my previous posts for more ideas on what to order:
