Is Loblaws City Market Breakfast Good? A Honest Vancouver Review

Thursdays are my "early bird" days. I’m in the office by 8:00 am, which usually feels like a marathon before the day even begins. To make it a bit sweeter, I’ve started treating myself to a Lyft ride—a little bubble of peace before the back-to-back meetings kick in.

Previously, my heart (and stomach) belonged to the Tim Hortons Farmers Breakfast Wrap. But as I’m keeping a closer eye on my sodium and saturated fat intake, I’ve had to bid that salty, savoury friend a bittersweet farewell.

Yesterday, my Lyft driver dropped me off right in front of the historic Post building, and I realized I had 10 minutes to spare. I frequent the Loblaws City Market inside The Post at least once a week and have tried almost everything from "The Canteen" hot bar for lunch and dinner, but I was surprised to find they serve a full breakfast spread too!

The Discovery

It was so early that the price tags weren't even out yet, but the kitchen was in full swing. I saw trays of steaming eggs, crispy potatoes, and rows of breakfast sausages and bacon glinting under the lights.

I grabbed the Breakfast Sausage, Egg, and Cheddar Cheese Sandwich ($4.49 + tax). To my surprise, it actually came with bacon inside too, a double protein punch!

The Verdict

Unfortunately, this is where the "storytelling" gets a bit cold. I got swept into meetings immediately and didn't get to take my first bite until after 10:00 am. By then, the sandwich was cold and the bread had gone a bit stale.

  • Taste: It was hard to give it a fair shake. The sausage didn't quite hit the mark for me, though that might be my lingering Tims nostalgia talking.
  • Pairing: I washed it down with a French Vanilla coffee from the office vending machine—a nostalgic, sugary comfort.
  • Utility Tip: At under $5, this is a steal for downtown Vancouver. However, learn from my mistake: Eat it fresh.

I’m definitely going back to give The Canteen a second chance when I can eat it immediately. In the meantime, if you're headed to The Post, check out some of my other guides to making the most of your visit:
