| ⭐ Smooch Verdict: | A fun, budget-restricted night out! While the dim sum was a bit average, the pan-fried pork buns were beautifully juicy on the inside, and finishing the evening with warm, pillowy sugar-coated beignets made the trip completely worth it. |
We headed out to the Richmond Night Market this evening with a very specific, primary goal in mind: taking photos of the menus for our massive Richmond Night Market Food Guide!
Of course, since we were already there, we had to grab a few bites. Unlike previous years where our strategy was to eat until we practically dropped, we kept things very intentional this time. We only tried two stalls because we walked in with a strict wallet constraint: exactly $40 in cash.
Our first stop was for dumplings at Poh Wah Dim Sum (Booth F61). To be completely honest, they were both middle-of-the-road at best, but they still hit the spot. We ordered the siu mai (4 for $13.00), which is a massive weakness of mine. This specific type of dumpling is incredibly popular back in the Philippines, so I always try to order a batch whenever I spot it on a menu.

| Our dim sum haul from Poh Wah: Siu Mai and Pan-Fried Pork Buns ($13.00 each). |
Along with the siu mai, we also picked up their pan-fried pork buns (4 for $13.00). These turned out to be the highlight of our savoury stop: lovely and soft on the outside, and wonderfully juicy on the inside.
|
| The Classic Beignets ($10.00) from Eat A Beignet: perfectly warm, fluffy, and sugary. |
To wrap up our evening, we decided to use our remaining cash on something sweet. We ended the night with a fresh order of beignets that were incredibly soft, pillowy, and completely coated in a thick layer of powdered sugar. We got "The Classic" option, which costs $10.00 for 3 pieces. You can find them over at booth F36, which goes by the name Eat A Beignet (or Nine!). It was the perfect sweet treat to enjoy while walking through the stalls.
