Café Central Review: 24/7 Free Dining at Histórico Central CDMX

☕ Café Central Late-Night Bites

The Perks: Open 24/7 and completely free for guests of Histórico Central Hotel
On the Menu: Freshly pressed paninis, regional tortas, hot soups, and local drinks
Our Picks: Bolillo Bread Turkey Ham, Grilled Chicken Breast Panini, Pap's Chips, and hot Oaxaca Chocolate

For our very last dinner in Mexico City before our flight tomorrow morning, we decided to keep things incredibly simple, cozy, and close to home. We headed right down to Café Central, which is tucked inside our hotel, Histórico Central. I know I mentioned this earlier during our stay, but this charming little café is open 24 hours a day and is completely free for hotel guests (minus the alcohol). It is such an incredible amenity, meaning this entire spread didn't cost us a single peso!

Looking up at the giant chalkboard menu, we were impressed by the variety they manage to offer around the clock. They have everything from traditional tortilla soup and fresh salads to an array of hot pressed specials. I decided to order the Bolillo Bread Turkey Ham, while hubby opted for the Grilled Chicken Breast Panini. To round out the meal, I snagged a bag of salty Pap's potato chips, and hubby went for a comforting cup of hot Oaxaca chocolate.

My Order: Bolillo Bread Turkey Ham

My sandwich arrived perfectly pressed on a classic, crusty bolillo roll. This one is layered with turkey ham, sun-dried tomatoes, creamy Oaxaca cheese, and fresh basil leaves. Taking a bite, I loved how the rich, gooey cheese melted perfectly against the smokiness of the turkey ham, while the sun-dried tomatoes added a beautiful, concentrated burst of tangy sweetness. It tasted like a wonderful Mexican street food riff on a classic Italian caprese sandwich.

Hubby's Order: Grilled Chicken Breast Panini

Hubby’s Grilled Chicken Breast Panini was served on a beautifully lined panini bread, pressed until golden and crisp. The kitchen packs this sandwich with tender grilled chicken breast, melted parmesan cheese, and a smoky chipotle mayonnaise dressing. The chicken stayed wonderfully moist, and that chipotle mayo gave the entire sandwich just the right amount of warm, local kick without being overly spicy. Paired with his rich, frothy cup of authentic hot chocolate, it was the ultimate comfort meal to close out an incredible vacation.
