🇲🇽 First Morning in Mexico City
| Location: | Cafe Urban inside InterContinental Presidente, Mexico City |
| Breakfast: | Breakfast Buffet ($480 MXN) |
| Stay: | InterContinental Presidente |
We arrived in Mexico City shortly before 10:00 pm, and I am so glad I arranged a pickup through Welcome Pickups to ensure we had a safe, stress-free ride to the InterContinental Presidente. After such a long travel day, we had a really good night’s sleep. I woke up naturally at 7:30 am, drifted back off, and slept until 10:00 am. It was the best feeling!
For our very first meal in the city, we headed to Cafe Urban for their breakfast buffet. At $480 pesos, it offers exactly the kind of variety you hope for. They had a beautiful spread including scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, beef stew, and chicken in a cream sauce. Of course, the Filipino in me had to enjoy everything with a side of rice.
For a bit of local Mexican flair, they offered chicken tamales filled with tender, slightly spicy chicken. There were also tortilla chips, beans, and an impressive selection of salsas. If you prefer made-to-order, there is a dedicated omelette station, plus plenty of fresh fruits, deli cuts, cheeses, and a wonderful section for both savoury and sweet breads.

| Starting the trip off right with a hearty breakfast plate. |
Seeing the bread with butter and sugar brought me back to my childhood, we call butter mantequilla back home too. It was a funny little Ratatouille food critic flashback moment for me. It is also a sweet reminder of the deep history between our countries, knowing that the Spaniards who came to the Philippines often travelled by way of Mexico.

I am (un)happy to report that because I have lost weight, my stomach signals that it is full much faster now. I managed one big plate and a little bit of cold cuts before I was perfectly satisfied. I might come back on Saturday before our tour, but my husband pointed out that the InterContinental has so many restaurants inside that we could try something completely different tomorrow and the next day.
I suddenly feel so relaxed. Usually, I pack my vacations with hundreds of things to do and visit, but not this time. I made zero plans and did zero research for this trip. I have just two simple goals: the tour on Saturday and Mass on Sunday at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Everything else? Thursday and Friday are officially for me to relax, take it easy, and finally turn off my brain, which is definitely the hardest part for someone who usually runs on checklists!
