Pelicana Chicken Vancouver Review: Spicy Chicken Korean BBQ Bowl

🍗 Team Lunch Chronicles: Pelicana Chicken

📍 Location: Pelicana Chicken (Robson Street, Vancouver)
🍱 Featured Dish: Spicy Chicken Korean BBQ Bowl ($16.95)

You know exactly what Thursday means around here: it is time for our weekly company-paid team lunch! This week, the chosen culinary theme was Korean food, which brought us straight to Pelicana Chicken along Robson Street. To be completely honest with you, I did not head in with the highest expectations. My first visit to this spot quite a while back left me with a rather disappointing impression, so I was a little nervous about how today would go. Happily, I can report that this lunch experience turned out much better.

I decided to order the Spicy Chicken Korean BBQ Bowl ($16.95). When it arrived at the table, the first thing I noticed was that it is definitely a heavy, carb-loaded meal! The large bowl comes packed with tender marinated chicken, fresh green salad, soft egg noodles, and a single piece of crispy mandoo, all resting on top of a mountain of warm rice.

Breaking down the elements, it was a bit of a mixed bag. The plain egg noodles really did not carry any flavour at all, and the solitary dumpling was just okay-ish. Thankfully, the star of the plate saved the day: the seasoned hot pepper paste chicken on top of the steamed rice was absolutely perfect.

The best way to enjoy it is to take a savoury bite of the saucy chicken mixed with a bit of the crunchy salad to get that lovely contrast of textures. Overall, it was a perfectly passable lunch that turned my opinion around.
