It is only Monday, and I honestly feel like I have already powered through a full five-day work week. Whew! I had to attend an in-person Physical First Aid training today. While I am incredibly appreciative that the company stepped up to pay for it, sitting through an exhausting six hours of intensive learning left my energy completely zapped. Before heading all the way home, I desperately needed a little afternoon pick-me-up. I looked over at my husband and asked if we could make a quick pit stop at Swiss Bakery.
The Pastry Showdown: Sweet vs. Savoury
We decided to fully indulge our cravings, picking up a mix of both sweet and savoury treats to share. On the sweet side, we couldn't resist grabbing two of their substantial double baked croissants. I selected the double baked almond version, while my husband went straight for the double baked chocolate option.
Because my taste buds were absolutely begging for something rich and savoury to balance things out, we also added a chicken sausage roll and a pork & beef sausage roll to our bag. If you are wondering how they stacked up against each other, this little pastry tasting quickly turned into a definitive battle with two incredibly clear frontrunners.

Let's start with the sweet treats. The double baked chocolate croissant completely stole the show. It was packed with gorgeous chocolate layered beautifully on the top and generously filled throughout the inside. It hit every single comforting note you want after a long day. On the flip side, the double baked almond croissant was... just kind of there for me. It didn't quite leave a lasting impression.

Savoury Champions
When it came to the savoury department, the competition wrapped up quickly. The absolute champion of the two was easily the pork & beef sausage roll. It carried a distinct, lovely touch of spice and was generally just far more robust and flavourful than the chicken version. The chicken sausage roll paled a bit in comparison, making the beef and pork blend the one we would instantly choose to order again.

Sometimes a long day simply demands a pastry recovery session, and Swiss Bakery definitely delivered the comfort we were looking for.
