Today was one of those beautifully slow Saturdays where hubby and I spent most of our morning just relaxing at home. By the afternoon, we were ready to get moving, so we took a stroll through The Pleasant Day Festival, soaking in all the sights, sounds, and delicious food smells along the way. I even treated myself to a new pair of running shoes from Forerunners to keep up with all my neighborhood walking!
After working up an appetite, we made our way over to Aperture Coffee Bar on Main Street (4124 Main St, Vancouver). We arrived just before 6:00 PM and were lucky enough to grab a table in the back room, if you haven't been before, they actually have so much extra cozy seating tucked away in the back!
We started off with our coffee orders: an iced mocha for me and a classic cappuccino for hubby.

For dinner, hubby decided to order the Shepherd's Pie ($12.00). We recently watched a video on the history of Shepherd's Pie on YouTube (on the Tasting History channel), so it was top of mind for him! In my mind, a "pie" always needs a proper pastry crust, so Shepherd's pie always feels a bit unusual to me. But if you're ever craving a hearty dish packed with smooth mashed potatoes and savoury meat, this version definitely hits the spot.

I went for the diet-approved Roasted Chicken Sandwich ($15.00). It came layered with crisp spinach, juicy slices of tomato, tender chicken, and a smoky chipotle sauce all pressed between wonderfully toasted bread. Every bite was so flavourful and satisfying!

We ended up staying past 7:00 PM because a live jazz set started setting up right near us. It was actually our very first time hanging out in a cozy cafe spot specifically to watch a live jazz band play, and the atmosphere was wonderful! The singer was Jody Quine. Please be sure to check out her channel and stream her songs if you love live music!
