The Verdict: Incredible gluten-free textures! Wonderfully moist, soft, and delightfully chewy.

I love exploring the bakeries and coffee shops tucked away in the industrial area east of Cambie and west of Main Street. Today, looking for a late Sunday breakfast after 11:00 am Mass at St. Patrick's, I suggested to my husband that we walk over to 3rd and Columbia to check out Bakery by Jany.

She specializes in gluten-free baked treats, and her shop is only open three days a week: Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Since we were stopping in for breakfast, we ordered a cozy toffee nut latte and shared two savoury pastries: the Beef Sausage Roll ($7.89) and the Cheese & Scallions Bun ($5.49).

Honestly, I might actually prefer gluten-free baked goods if they are all made like this! Her version is amazingly chewy and moist. The cheese and scallion bun has a scone-like structure, but it is so remarkably soft that it bounces right back up when pressed.

The bread wrapped around the juicy beef sausage is pleasantly soft and chewy rather than flaky, which makes for a unique and satisfying take compared to traditional puff pastry versions I have tried elsewhere.

I enjoyed every single bite of these goodies way too much. I am definitely going to need to come back soon to try more of her menu!
