Local Urban Cafe Vancouver Review: Tiramisu & Salted Caramel Cakes

🍰 Spot Review: Local Urban Cafe (1019 Main St, Vancouver)

What We Tried: Tiramisu Cake ($5.99), Salted Caramel Cake ($5.99)
The Highs: Adorable, gift-ready packaging and a wonderfully balanced, traditional sponge layout in the Tiramisu.
The Verdict: A delightful, budget-friendly neighborhood stop to grab a sweet treat to-go for a cozy night in!

After a thoroughly satisfying dinner at Redbeef, we decided to close out what turned out to be an absolute pig-out day! As we were walking home along Main Street, we spotted a sign that caught our eye: Lunch. Dessert. Coffee. Naturally, our eyes zipped straight to the word Dessert.

We crossed the street to see what kind of treats they had in store and ended up walking away with a couple of mini cakes to-go from Local Urban Cafe ($5.99 each). Can we talk about how adorable these little takeout boxes are? They look like custom, hand-drawn gifts complete with bright red lettering and little doodles like "made with love" indeed!

Once we made it back, we unboxed our treats and paired them with a hot pot of soothing chrysanthemum tea for a cozy late-night treat. First up was the Tiramisu. It comes topped with a classic dusting of cocoa powder and a single chocolate coffee bean right in the center. I really enjoyed this one because it has a great cake-to-cream ratio, featuring distinct, distinct layers of espresso-soaked sponge holding everything together beautifully.

Next up was the Salted Caramel cake, which came decorated with delicate white and dark chocolate curls on top. Between the two, I definitely preferred the tiramisu. The salted caramel version consists of a thin sponge base supporting a very thick, generous layer of rich caramel mousse. Because it leans so heavily into the creamy, velvety filling rather than a traditional fluffy cake structure, it was just a bit too rich for my personal preference.

That being said, if you absolutely love thick, decadent, melt-in-your-mouth textures, that salted caramel option would likely be right up your alley! At under six dollars a piece, it’s a wonderful local gem to pop into when you need a quick sugar fix on your walk home.
