C Market Coffee Vancouver Review: The City’s Largest Cafe & Best Matcha

A TARDIS on Main Street: The Grand Opening of C Market Coffee

There are some days where Vancouver simply shows off. Today is one of them. Under a sky so clear and blue it feels like a gift, and I am ever so grateful to our Lord Jesus Christ for giving me a chance to live here, I found myself walking six kilometres from 11:00 AM Mass just to soak in the gorgeous, crisp air. My destination? A milestone for the local coffee scene.

I stood in a line that stretched nearly the block, which is a sight I usually avoid at all costs. But for the grand opening of C Market Coffee, I made an exception. Located at 195 E 36th Avenue, right on the edge of the Mount Pleasant and Riley Park neighbourhoods, this isn't just another coffee shop. Spanning a staggering 5,000 square feet, it is officially the largest cafe in Vancouver. The energy here is electric, the sun is shining without the bite of summer heat, and from the sidewalk, you wouldn't guess its true scale. Like the TARDIS, it is much bigger on the inside.

The "Data": Grand Opening Menu

Stepping inside, the "loud energy" of the grand opening hits you immediately. It is a massive, chic space with seating for 150. Because it was day one, they offered a curated selection from their full kitchen. Since this is the Grand Opening menu, please note that items and pricing may change as they settle into the space.

  • Bulgogi Bowl: $17.50
  • Bulgogi Cheese Burger (Black Bun): $15.25
  • K-Chicken Burger (Black Bun): $15.25
  • Melon Cloud Latte (Large): $7.00
  • Dubai Chocolate Cookie: $8.00

The Verdict: Bulgogi and a Matcha Epiphany

I opted for the Bulgogi Bowl ($17.50). For those seeking a strictly traditional experience, this is a more modern, cafe-style interpretation. While the serving size isn't particularly large, the quality is undeniable. The beef is wonderfully tender and the kimchi is bright and fresh. I loved the addition of mushrooms, arugula, and red peppers, which provided a great balance of textures. A thoughtful touch: the Korean red paste (gochujang) is served on the side, allowing you to control the heat yourself.

Smooch Food Tip: If you are looking for a more traditional, mountain-sized bulgogi bowl, I would suggest skipping the one here and choosing something else on the menu instead.

But the real star of the show? The Matcha Latte with Oat Milk ($7.00). I had a similar drink at Nemesis yesterday and thought it was good, but this was a revelation. It was incredibly strong and earthy without a hint of bitterness. If you’ve ever wondered what high-quality matcha is supposed to taste like, this is it. It’s robust, velvety, and easily the best I’ve had in Vancouver.

The Sweet Finale: A Date with Myself

Today was a lovely "date with myself" because my husband had other plans. I can’t wait to come back with him to try other things on their menu, but I couldn't leave without a treat to bring home to him: the viral Dubai Chocolate Cookie ($8.00). The cookie base is perfectly moist, and it's topped with that signature kataifi (shredded pastry sweets) covered in chocolate that gives it such a satisfying crunch. The chocolate is rich but not overpowering, making it a truly smooch-worthy way to end the meal.

C Market Coffee is a bold new addition to the Vancouver coffee landscape. It’s big, it’s loud, and it’s serving up some of the most refined flavours in Mount Pleasant. Whether you're here for the "TARDIS" vibes or that world-class matcha, it’s well worth the walk.
