Chai Wagon Vancouver Review: Best Ginger Chai in Mount Pleasant?

There are days when you just need to press pause, find a window seat, and let the world rush by without you for a while. That was my afternoon at Chai Wagon in Mount Pleasant. I found a spot at the counter facing the street, watching the cars zip past toward Main Street while I settled in with my order.

The Perfect Heat: Ginger Chai ($4.50)

Of course, I went for the Ginger Chai. This was my third time ordering it, but it was the first time I’ve had it served this hot and honestly? It changed the whole experience.

There’s a comfort in a cup that you have to hold with both hands, waiting for that first sip while the steam carries the sharp, spicy scent of fresh ginger. It’s balanced, and exactly what a typical grey Vancouver afternoon calls for. If you're looking for chai that hasn't been watered down by syrups, this is the standard.

The "Indian-Jamaican" Fusion: The Paneer Tikka Patty ($5.95)

I couldn't spot the Vada Pav on the menu during this visit, so I decided to try their Paneer Tikka Patty. It was a delightful surprise! If you’ve ever had a Jamaican patty, the pastry will feel immediately familiar—it has that same flaky, golden, layered crunch that shatters with every bite.

Inside, it’s filled with a savoury, spiced paneer that has just the right amount of kick. It’s the perfect "grab-and-go" lunch, though I’m glad I stayed put. Sitting there, enjoying the warmth of the tea and the crunch of the pastry while the neighbourhood hummed outside, felt like a much-needed catch-up with a friend (even if that friend was just myself).

Smooch Food Tip: Chai Wagon is open late (until 11:00 PM daily), making it one of the best spots in Mount Pleasant for a post-dinner (or after drinks at the Brew Hall) treat when most other cafes have closed their doors.

This wasn't my first time exploring the menu here! If you’re curious about their heartier options, check out my earlier post on their Chicken Tikka Kathi Roll and Nutri Kulcha. It’s been fun seeing how their menu evolves.
