Finding the Original Thai Tea Menu on Broadway (Vancouver)
Our Saturday started with a specific goal. It was Pi Day, so we headed to West Broadway to grab lunch at Peaked Pies. After finishing our savoury steak pies, we walked outside and saw a massive line just two doors down at the legendary ChaTraMue.
This brand is the original creator of Thai iced tea, and they just opened this Vancouver location in February. Even though the shop has been open for a month, the crowd was still huge. We decided to hop in line and see if the eighty year old recipe lived up to the hype.
The wait took some time, but the transition from the sidewalk into the shop was worth it. You could smell the roasted tea leaves as soon as you hit the door. The space was bright and busy, filled with people waiting for their iconic orange drinks.
๐น Tasting Notes: The 30% Sweetness Test
We wanted to actually taste the tea and coffee rather than just sugar. I ordered the Thai Tea cold and my husband got the Thai Coffee cold. We both chose thirty percent sweetness. We were worried it might be too bitter, but it actually had plenty of sugary balance.

| A vibrant, floral Thai Tea standing tall against the bustling Broadway storefront. Holding this iconic orange cup felt like catching a piece of history right in the middle of our Saturday stroll. |
My tea had a floral aroma that was very punchy. It was refreshing and much deeper than the versions I have tried before. The coffee was also a hit. It used dark Robusta beans that had a nutty flavour, which paired well with the creamy evaporated milk. It was a nice treat that felt authentic and not overly processed.

One very unusual thing on the menu is a bold warning. Both the Honey Rose Tea and Rose Milk Tea carry a note saying they have a "natural laxative effect." The menu advises not to consume them on an empty stomach. If you are adventurous, proceed with caution!
๐งก Final Thoughts for Next Time
One thing we learned for next time is to ask for less ice. The menu lists the standard "Original Ice" alongside a "Less Ice (30%)" option. The standard serving comes with a lot of ice, which can water down the drink if you do not finish it quickly. We will definitely make that adjustment on our next visit.
Documenting these new openings is our way of sharing the smooch-worthy flavours of our city. Whether you are grabbing a savoury pie next door or waiting in line for tea, we hope this guide makes your Broadway stroll a little sweeter! To God be the glory for the joy of a simple Saturday walk.

Perfect for a quiet, relaxing dinner. We highly recommend the Veggies Delight Tofu for a healthy, savoury crunch, or the Classic Pad Thai Combo for that iconic sweet and salty balance. -
