Chop Steakhouse Richmond Review 2026: Prime Rib & Healthy Super Bowls

Earlier today was a big family day as we celebrated my younger sister’s birthday at Chop Steakhouse. This was not our first time choosing Chop for a family milestone. Back in 2021, we celebrated my sister's birthday with a Chop Steakhouse delivery that set a high bar for steak at home. It was wonderful to visit their dining room at the Richmond location to see how the experience is in person.

The Snapshot: Chop Steakhouse Richmond

  • The Vibe: Dark, upscale, and cozy: perfect for groups or date nights.
  • Happy Hour: Daily 3 PM to 6 PM and 9 PM to Close.
  • The Location: 10251 St Edwards Dr, Richmond, BC (at the Sandman Signature).

The Starters: Steak Bites vs. Birria Spring Rolls

Since we arrived during Happy Hour, we dove into a spread of appetizers. The Steak Bites ($24) were the clear winner: juicy, tender, and exactly what you want from a steakhouse.

The clear winner of the happy hour: juicy, tender steak bites that were exactly what you want from a steakhouse.

We also tried the Wild Mushroom & Goat Cheese Dip ($14 on Happy Hour). This was incredibly creamy and earthy, served with beautiful pesto-drizzled crostini. As much as I enjoyed the dip, the truffle honey made it lean a bit too sweet for my specific palate.

The real curiosity was the Birria Spring Rolls ($10 Happy Hour price). These were beefy, and the slow-cooked birria flavor was present, but honestly, they did not quite hit the mark. I think growing up with Filipino Lumpiang Shanghai gives you a very high standard for what an excellent spring roll should be!

Beefy birria spring rolls served with consome. They were interesting, but they couldn't compete with the standard of Filipino lumpia.

Out of the three appetizers, I would gladly stick to the steak bites next time.

Mains: The "Healthy" Choice vs. The Classic Prime Rib

I am currently focusing on healthier choices, so I opted for the Avocado Super Bowl with Salmon ($31). I was highly recommended to eat healthy in a steakhouse, and this did not disappoint. It is a massive bed of greens, cauliflower rice, and the most delicious pop of crispy chickpeas and candied pumpkin seeds. The salmon was perfectly cooked, not too sweet, just flaky and fresh. If you are the type who usually avoids salads, this one is actually worth the "forever chew" because the textures are so fun.

A surprisingly delicious and healthy steakhouse main: perfectly flaky salmon on a super bowl bed with crispy chickpeas.

Hubby went the traditional route with the Regular Prime Rib ($45). Even the "regular" cut is huge! It was fatty, juicy, and a perfect medium-rare. But the real star for me? The Yorkshire Pudding. It was exactly how I like it: airy and soft on the inside with a slight crunch on the outside, bordering on delightfully soggy once it is covered in gravy. While this was a great steakhouse version, it has some tough competition with my absolute favorite Yorkshire pudding bowl in Vancouver!

A Sweet (and Warm?) Finish

To end the night, we shared the Pineapple Upside Down Cake ($15). The candied pecans were a major highlight, as was the rich caramel drizzle on the plate.

A sweet conclusion with candied pecans and caramel. While delicious, I found myself wishing the cake was a bit warmer.

I found myself wishing the cake was a bit warmer to really melt the gelato. Funnily enough, my sister ordered the same thing and hers arrived perfectly warm, so it might just be the luck of the draw!

Pro-Tip: If you are looking for a smooch-worthy healthy win at a steakhouse, the Avocado Super Bowl with Salmon is a 10/10.

It was a wonderful night celebrating my sister. There is nothing quite like a big family table, juicy prime rib, and the comfort of a Richmond classic to cap off the weekend.
