Pizza Pizza Richmond Review: Why the Cheese Volcano Dipper is the Real Star

After my writing date at Eggspectation, I took a slow 25-minute stroll to my parents' home. It was the perfect way to move my body after those potato wedges! The afternoon was spent in the best kind of way: catching up with Mama, chatting about the legal cases in Beyond the Bar on Netflix, and eventually falling so deeply asleep during video games with my sister that my character just stopped moving.

For dinner, Mama reached for a classic: a Pizza Pizza coupon. We decided to stay in and let the food come to us from the St. Edwards Drive location.

The Unexpected Star: Cheese Volcano Dipper ($12.49)

I’ll be honest: I might never order a standard pizza here again. The Cheese Volcano Dipper is the undisputed champion of the menu. It is roughly the size of a medium pizza but serves as a massive, pull-apart vessel for a pool of cheesy, creamy garlic sauce. It isn't necessarily "gooey" in a messy way, but it is incredibly rich. At $12.49, it felt like more of a "main event" than the actual pizzas!

Is it a pizza? Is it a side? Whatever it is, the Cheese Volcano Dipper is the new champion of my Pizza Pizza order. It’s massive, rich, and totally worth the splurge.

Wait for it... the Cheese Volcano Dipper ($12.49) in action. It’s a creamy, garlicky dip-lover’s dream come true.

Nostalgia in a Box: Double Curly Fries ($9.99)

Growing up in the Philippines, curly fries were a rare, seasonal treat at McDonald's that we all looked forward to. Knowing I can get these seasoned, crispy curls anytime I want at Pizza Pizza is such a comforting thought. They were perfectly executed—crispy enough to stand up to the delivery journey and seasoned just right.

The Pizza Rounds

  • Medium Mediterranean Vegetarian ($23.94): A deliberate, veggie-forward choice by Mama. It felt like a nice, lighter balance to the heavier sides.

Mama’s choice: The Mediterranean Vegetarian ($23.94). A deliberate, veggie-heavy balance to a day of spicy chicken and cheese volcanoes.

  • Small Ultimate Pepperoni ($13.97): A classic for the table, though it definitely played second fiddle to the Dipper.

A classic Small Ultimate Pepperoni ($13.97) for the table. Good, but definitely playing second fiddle to those curly fries and the dipper tonight!

Overall, the lesson learned today is that Pizza Pizza’s "supporting cast" might actually be the stars of the show. If you’re looking for a nostalgic snack or a dip-heavy feast, skip the extra toppings and go straight for the sides.
