La Pache Pizza Review: Affordable Neapolitan Slices on Commercial Drive

Last Sunday, we walked from Our Lady of Sorrows on Slocan Street to Commercial Drive looking for a spot to have lunch. The trip took a while since there were a lot of people walking around, enjoying a gorgeous sunny day and the temperature finally going over 15°C for the first time this year. Hubby was hoping for Kulinarya, but I suddenly had a nosebleed during our walk and we completely missed it!

We kept walking and walking until I told hubby I was starved and that we should go to the next spot we saw, which happened to be La Pache Pizza. It turned out to be good value. We got the ~$9 deal for two slices and a pop.

Hubby went for pepperoni and Hawaiian, while I got both vegetarian slices.

Mushroom Truffle and Classic Vegetariana pizza slices at La Pache Pizza Vancouver
Top: Mushroom Truffle - Alfredo sauce, fior di latte, mozzarella, mushrooms, gorgonzola, and truffle oil
Bottom: Classic Vegetariana - Tomato sauce, fior di latte, mozzarella, baby spinach leaves, olive, ricotta cheese, and artichokes

I chose two different vegetarian slices, and both looked excellent on the plate. The Mushroom Truffle was a white pizza, heavily loaded with well-roasted, earthy mushrooms that gave it a deep flavour against the cheese. It was quite rich. The Classic Vegetariana was more complex. It features a robust red sauce base, topped with fresh spinach, artichoke hearts, and large dollops of creamy, delicate fresh cheese. The spinach was perfectly wilted and savoury, while the artichokes added a nice bright, tangy note that cut through the richness of the cheese.

Hawaiian and Pepperoni pizza slices at La Pache Pizza Commercial Drive
Top: Hawaiian - Tomato sauce, fior di latte, mozzarella, prosciutto cotto, and sliced pineapple
Bottom: Pepperoni - Tomato sauce, fior di latte mozzarella, double pepperoni

Hubby’s plate had classic appeal. The Hawaiian slice featured generous portions of ham and bright pineapple chunks on a tomato base. The pepperoni slice, partially visible behind it, was perfectly cooked. The texture of the crust was good, providing that slight chew you expect.

This is a good representation of Neapolitan style, but I still prefer Ignite. When comparing the two, Ignite’s ingredients just seem fresher and more vibrant. Perhaps it’s how they char the crust or a slight difference in fermentation, but their overall composition feels a little lighter and more refined.
