Happy Friday! I took today off from work for a much-needed little break. To kick off the long weekend, Hubby and I decided to hang out at a coffee shop nearby to try and get a bit of creative work done. We headed over to Honolulu Coffee in False Creek, but the cozy, tropical vibes got the better of us—we ended up staying there much longer than we originally intended and ordered way too much food!

As soon as we snagged a table and sat down, Hubby started things off with their signature Hawaiian Latte ($7.00). That very first sip is a definitive punch of rich macadamia nut, beautifully followed by a subtle, sweet coconut aftertaste. It is incredibly comforting and a really unique twist on a standard flavored latte. I stole a sip and absolutely liked it!

I, of course, went with my old reliable: an unsweetened matcha latte ($6.80) with oat milk (+$0.50). It was a perfectly standard, solid coffee shop version—smooth, earthy, and exactly what I needed to ground myself for the afternoon.

After polishing off our hot drinks, we transitioned into lunch mode and decided to share their Haleiwa smoothie ($9.50). Blending pineapple, mango, and banana, it’s a brilliant trifecta of tropical fruits and tastes incredibly refreshing.

To round out our little midday snack-turned-lunch, we paired the smoothie with two of their hot dishes: the Hawaiian Sandwich and the Maui Veggie.

The Hawaiian ($12.00) features a sweet and savory flavor profile that is right up my alley. It’s packed with ham, fresh greens, juicy pineapple, melted Swiss cheese, and a unique mango paprika mustard, all pressed between pillowy, soft focaccia bread.

We also tried their Maui Veggie ($12.00), and surprisingly, this ended up being my absolute preferred sandwich of the two! It combines earthy mushrooms, Swiss cheese, and a rich white BBQ sauce. What elevates it is the incredibly generous heap of fresh arugula—its peppery crispness balances the heavy, savory elements beautifully. It is so remarkably good.

Our favorite of the day: The Maui Veggie Sandwich ($12.00), perfectly balanced with fresh arugula.
