⭐ Smooch Verdict: A charming, family-run spot perfect for an early Sunday morning breakfast, serving up an incredibly fresh and vibrant lox bagel.

Happy Sunday! Today is a big day because Hubby is running the Vancouver half marathon. I caught up with him near the 6km mark right by our home to cheer him on, and then I hopped on the train to head straight for the finish line. Normally, I would love to walk the distance, but I am still trying to be extra mindful of my wound. It is healing up nicely, but it is just moving a little too slowly for my liking!

Since I found myself waiting near the finish line quite early, I searched around for a nearby coffee shop that was already open before 8:00 am on a Sunday. Luckily, Mangez Mangez Cafe & Eatery popped up on my radar.

I have been sitting here for about two hours now working on this post, and it truly feels like a lovely family-run business. At one point, the cafe even had a bustling line stretching out the door, filled with tourists, locals, and fellow BMO marathon supporters like me.

For breakfast, I ordered The Lox ($14.98). Smoked salmon, capers, and cream cheese nestled inside a perfectly toasted bagel is my absolute go-to breakfast sandwich whenever it is on a menu, and this one was a total win. This version also features fresh baby tomatoes and peppery arugula, which balanced out all the rich flavours beautifully.

Of course, I paired my sandwich with a hot matcha latte ($5.75). I requested it with oat milk and asked for it to be unsweetened, but unfortunately, it turned out quite sweet. I suspect they might have added sugar by accident. It was a tiny bit disappointing since the gentleman at the counter mentioned it would be unsweetened so customers could add sugar themselves, which is a really thoughtful touch! Unless, perhaps, it is just meant to be that way, or their brand of oat milk runs naturally sweet.

Even with the sweet surprise, I really enjoyed my morning breakfast experience here. Maybe next year when we are back for the marathon, I will try a mocha paired with their "Mr. Avocado" sandwich instead!
