Happy Thursday! After an exhausting and emotional start to the week, the universe finally threw a little joy my way in the form of our very first team lunch with just us three girls in the office. The theme of the week is dumplings! Specifically, we had our hearts completely set on traditional Tibetan and Nepalese dumplings, which naturally led us straight back to BC Momo Restaurant & Bar.
Both of my lovely office colleagues were born and raised in India, meaning I had the perfect culinary guides to navigate the menu. Because work had been an absolute whirlwind this morning, I ended up unintentionally skipping breakfast. By the time lunch rolled around, I was completely famished and wanted to order everything in sight! Thankfully, South Asian cuisine is beautifully built around family-style dining, so we decided to each select our own plate of momos and order a big plate of noodles to share.
We started things off with the Veggie Chow Mein ($15.00), and my goodness, it completely blew me away. This stir-fried noodle dish features a gorgeous, deep depth of flavourful heat that you simply will not find in traditional Chinese or Filipino versions. It made me incredibly happy to eat, even if the brilliant kick of spice instantly opened up my nostrils! It is an absolute must-order if you love a bit of fiery character in your noodles.

Then came the grand main event. For my choice, I chose the classic, deeply traditional Steamed Buff Momo ($16.00). Buff, which is authentic water buffalo meat, brings a uniquely robust, slightly gamey, and incredibly savoury note to the table. Because I opted for the steamed version rather than fried, you can truly taste the beautiful quality of the meat and the masterfully balanced seasonings packed inside the thin, tender dough wrappers.
The plate came accompanied by two distinct dipping sauces. While there was one vibrant sauce whose exact spice blend I could not quite place, the second sauce was a rich, velvety butter chicken gravy that was absolutely outstanding.

My colleague decided to go with the Chicken Afgani Momo ($15.51), and oh my goodness, it was an absolute revelation. The star of this dish is a luxurious, creamy white sauce that is a certified winner. Honestly, I would happily dip absolutely anything into that sauce and call it a day! To unlock an entirely new level of deliciousness, try mixing a bit of that silky Afgani white sauce together with the rich butter chicken gravy, it is pure heaven.
