🛬 Welcome Home: Post-Travel Rice Craving
| Location: | Bubble Waffle Cafe (YVR Airport, International Arrivals) |
| The Mains: | Chicken Curry with Rice & HK Pork BBQ & Egg with Rice |
| The Sides: | Taiwanese-style Chicken Nuggets & a classic Bubble Waffle |
We have officially landed back in Vancouver! It is funny how travel works. No matter how many incredible, mouth-watering meals you experience abroad, there is always that one specific comfort food your body begs for the absolute second you step off the plane. For me, it was rice. It is a total case of déjà vu, because the exact same thing happened the last time we returned from a trip to Mexico.
Knowing we needed to satisfy that craving immediately, we headed straight to the closest spot near YVR’s International Arrivals terminal: Bubble Waffle Cafe.

My Order: Chicken Curry with Rice
I did not hesitate for a second and ordered the Chicken Curry with Rice. It came served as a rich, aromatic bowl of yellow curry packed with tender pieces of chicken breast and topped with a bright green head of broccoli, accompanied by a separate, perfectly packed bowl of steaming hot rice.

As a Filipino, nothing beats a generous pour of rich savoury sauce or gravy mixed into warm rice alongside some perfectly cooked meat. Spooning that comforting, warm curry sauce right over the rice was pure joy. It completely satisfied my post-flight cravings.
Hubby's Order: HK Pork BBQ & Egg with Rice
Hubby went with the HK Pork BBQ & Egg with Rice. His bowl arrived piled high with slices of classic Chinese BBQ pork, a perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg resting right on top, and a side of steamed broccoli.

While we both agreed the BBQ pork was not best version we have ever had, it carried that distinctly sweet and deeply savoury flavour profile that we both love. When you mix that rich, runny egg yolk into the pork and rice, it creates such a delicious, comforting bite.
Because we can never resist the snacks here, we also ordered a box of their crispy chicken nuggets, which taste wonderfully similar to Taiwanese-style street fried chicken, and, of course, a signature fresh, golden bubble waffle to share.
Home Sweet Home & Next Steps
Sitting at the table, we were already excitedly discussing where our next travel adventure might take us. But for right now, it is time to settle back into our home routine, save up some funds, and see what the rest of the summer brings.
Since we ordered so enthusiastically, we ended up with plenty of delicious leftovers packed up for dinner tonight. It actually works out perfectly because we already have some extra cooked rice sitting in the fridge. I am planning to turn it into a batch of fragrant, crispy garlic fried rice tonight, using the classic recipe my auntie from LA taught me. There is truly nothing better.
What about you? What is the one must-have comfort food you crave the minute you get back home from a long trip? Do you head straight for a specific restaurant at the airport, or do you wait until you get back to your own kitchen? Let me know in the comments below!
