Happy Tuesday! I am back home in Vancouver, and thank goodness I still have a bit of vacation time left before heading back to work. First things first, it is hot outside today! The temperature is expected to climb well above 30°C. We are thankful to have air conditioning to retreat to, but unfortunately, we woke up quite late today and had to rush out immediately to grab some essentials from the grocery store.
Once the errands were checked off, we decided to treat ourselves to our first meal of the day. We made a b-line for Just Another on West 5th Avenue. If you are familiar with the area west of Main Street, east of Cambie, and north of Broadway, you know there is a wonderful pocket of hidden gem coffee shops. The catch? Some of them are closed on weekends to serve the local weekday workforce. Having a random Tuesday off was the ultimate opportunity to finally explore and give this spot a try!

First Bites: The Chocolate Orange Sourdough Cookie ($4.25)
We ordered a hearty sandwich each, and while we were standing around waiting for it to be prepared, we could not resist diving early into the Chocolate Orange Sourdough Cookie ($4.25).

| The Chocolate Orange Sourdough Cookie, beautifully accented with a piece of candied orange and a sprinkle of sea salt. |
It turned out to be an incredible choice. The cookie packs a deeply rich, intense chocolate flavour that hits you right away, but it is beautifully balanced by a bright citrus punch from a strong orange infusion. To make things even better, you can see and taste little specks of flaky sea salt scattered across the top, which cuts through the sweetness and makes the entire flavour profile absolutely pop.
The Main Event: BLT Sandwich on Focaccia ($9.00)
Soon after, our main order arrived: the BLT Sandwich on Focaccia ($9.00).

| The star of the show, showing off that beautifully thick, airy, and golden focaccia crust. |
The focaccia bread was incredibly airy and cloud-soft, creating the textural contrast against the heavy, beautifully crispy, fatty layers of bacon. On the inner side of the focaccia, they slathered a smooth, luscious creamy dressing, though I am honestly not entirely sure whether it was a rich butter base or mayonnaise. Whichever it was, it coated the bread beautifully. My personal favourite bites were the ones featuring the gorgeous, juicy slices of fresh tomato, which brought a lovely freshness to everything.
The Drinks ($5.75 each)
Naturally, we had to pair our food with some specialty caffeinated drinks. I ordered a hot Mocha with Almond Milk ($5.75), while hubby went down the slightly sweeter path and chose the Honey Oat Latte ($5.75).

Both drinks were smooth. Admittedly, a rich, savoury bacon sandwich is not exactly the classic pairing you dream of next to a chocolatey hot mocha, but both components were so excellent individually that I did not mind at all. I did find myself wishing we had managed to pull ourselves out of bed just a tiny bit earlier so we could have sampled their highly praised breakfast sandwiches before they sold out. But as we always say, there is always next time!
Taking a slow, quiet morning to explore the Mount Pleasant industrial area coffee shops when the crowds are minimal is such a wonderful treat. It is a fantastic reminder to enjoy the local gems right in our own backyard.
