We had a wonderful colleague visiting our Vancouver office from Melbourne on a mission to catch the World Cup action across North America. To kick off his massive football journey, a few of us headed over to the official FIFA Fan Festival at the PNE.
If you haven't been yet, the best way to describe the setup is that it feels exactly like the classic PNE Fair, except entry is completely free! The venue is absolutely packed with massive screens, electric energy, and so many diverse food areas and delicious options to explore. We managed to settle in just in time to watch an incredible match where Korea secured a thrilling, come from behind victory against Czechia. The atmosphere in the crowd was unmatched!

Of course, you know me, I was primarily there to check out the food truck lineup! For my first snack of the day, I decided to grab a tray of nachos from Dos Amigos Tex-Mex. Regular readers might remember that I have tried their food previously, and really enjoyed it. Sadly, this particular batch was a little bit of a letdown. For some reason, the tortilla chips tasted quite stale, which was a bit sad given how much I loved them in the past.

Thankfully, the next stop completely turned things around! I realized it had been quite some time since I last treated myself to fish and chips, so I made a beeline for the Rumblefish food truck.
They serve up fresh, gorgeous local pink salmon, and it was absolute perfection. The thick, beautifully oily batter encasing the juicy, tender salmon was spectacular, hitting exactly the right comforting note. Paired with a generous dollop of creamy, tangy tartar sauce, it was easily the highlight bite of the afternoon.

Getting to experience our city's world-class events while indulging in local food truck delicacies is such a treat. It was the perfect send-off afternoon for our colleague's introductory taste of Vancouver sports culture before he jets off to watch the rest of the matches in the United States.
