We are officially at the gate and waiting to board our flight to Mexico City! To be completely honest, I am feeling tired today. Usually, I get so excited to travel and start a vacation, but this time around, the exhaustion has really caught up with me. Between the busy weeks behind me and the extra effort of packing medical supplies like dressings and gauze pads, my energy is just spent. I am still so grateful for the chance to take this trip, and I am holding onto the hope that my body stays strong, healthy, and keeps on healing while we are away.

After starting our day with an early lunch at Mr. Sushi, we found ourselves looking for a quick bite to eat near Gate D51. If you ever find yourself on this side of the International Airport after security, you will quickly realize that Sweet Maple Lounge is the only food source right nearby. If you want more variety, you will need to take a ten-minute walk back to the other side of the terminal.

Since we needed to fuel up, we decided to try their sandwiches. Hubby went with the Slow Roast Beef Sandwich AAA ($16.99), and it was absolutely perfect. It featured a very generous serving of tender beef slices tucked into a soft brioche bun, paired with Havarti cheese, crisp lettuce, pickles, and a kick of horseradish aioli. For airport prices, this was actually a fantastic, filling sandwich.

I opted for the Ham & Cheese Sandwich ($16.99), which came with shaved honey ham, lettuce, and cool cucumber slices on a whole wheat bun. It was supposed to have a honey mustard sauce, but it was barely noticeable. Hubby took one look at it and declared it looked a bit sad and dry. Honestly, he was right! If you have to choose between the two, definitely go with the roast beef.

We also learned a big lesson from our last flight to Mexico! On that trip, we arrived at our hotel around 1:00 am and realized we had not eaten a proper meal since 2:30 pm the previous afternoon. It was a total travel horror story. Determined not to repeat history, we decided to pack some backup snacks this time. We picked up a classic Butter Croissant ($6.49) and a sweet Almond Croissant ($6.49) to bring on board with us.
