It’s anniversary time! Well, one of the many anniversaries we love to celebrate throughout the year, and of course, our absolute favourite annual tradition is booking a table at Bridges, which is now beautifully reimagined as Tap & Barrel Bridges.

Since I am feeling incredibly motivated to stick to my health goals lately, I wanted to keep things light, fresh, and seafood-focused. Looking over the menu, I accidentally set a theme for myself. Hubby laughed and called my order the "Ahi Ahi" dinner, and honestly, it fit perfectly! 🤣

First up was the Peruvian Ahi Tuna Ceviche ($19.80). I generally don’t think to order ceviche when we go out, but this dish completely convinced me that I need to start ordering it way more often! The execution was beautiful. It featured pristine, fresh cubes of ahi tuna bathed in a bright, wonderfully tart lemon juice sauce (the classic aji amarillo leche de tigre). It was layered with creamy avocado, fresh green onions, pickled shallots, a kick of fresno chili, and micro cilantro. For the ultimate textural contrast, it was sprinkled with crunchy corn nuts and served alongside warm, cumin-dusted tortilla chips. Scooping a bit of everything onto a single chip was absolute heaven.

The perfect bite: crispy, tart, and creamy all at once.

To double down on the tuna theme, I also ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl ($26.50). It arrived loaded to the brim with sushi rice, a punchy gochujang soy marinade, tobiko, rich miso mayo, roasted pineapple, seaweed salad, pickled ginger, avocado, crisp radish, sunomono cucumber, cilantro, and a crunchy onion furikake. It was a really solid, satisfying bowl with tons of flavour! That being said, of course, a casual waterfront lounge bowl won't quite match the customization of a dedicated poke shop; my absolute gold standard in town is still Pokerrito. But for a date night option? It hit the spot.

Hubby decided to go a slightly more indulgent route and ordered the Steak Frites ($34.95), which features a grilled 7oz sirloin steak, a rich peppercorn sauce, golden fries, and a truffle arugula salad. It was perfectly alright! Since they aren't a dedicated steakhouse, it wasn't a mind-blowingly tender cut, but it was a completely decent pub-style steak. That being said, despite my best intentions to be good, I kept reaching across the table to steal his fries. 🫣 Hey, so much for strictly sticking to my health goals, right?

We also did something a bit unusual for us; we ordered drinks! I initially thought we never do this, but Hubby quickly corrected me and reminded me that we almost always get celebratory drinks here, and I probably just forget to snap photos of them.

He chose the bright and summery Raspberry Crush ($9.95), mixed with Polar Ice vodka, Minute Maid lemonade, fresh raspberries, soda, and a twist of lemon. For my drink, I went zero-proof and ordered the non-alcoholic Blackberry & Bitters ($6.95). Despite the name, it wasn't bitter at all, but rather sour and refreshing; a crisp blend of blackberry, lemon, lime, ginger ale, and just a dash of Angostura bitters.

It felt so incredibly wonderful to have a proper, disconnected date night at our special usual spot. To round out the perfect evening, we decided to skip the bus and walked all the way home (a nice 3.5 km stroll) along the seawall, catching the sunset and taking in those stunning, iconic Vancouver views.

Happy Anniversary, my love! Here’s to many, many more adventures together.
