After spending four hours at the Vancouver Public Library’s Mount Pleasant branch, completely lost in writing out all of June’s food adventures, the hunger finally caught up to us. Whew! Having skipped lunch entirely to hit our flow state, we practically stumbled out of the library starved and made a beeline for the nearby Trees Organic Coffee to draft this in real-time.
If you've been following along for a while, you might remember the Trees location we used to frequent over on Fir Street that sadly closed down. I have to say, the display case at this branch immediately caught my eye—the savoury options looked better than what we used to see at our old spot. Since we’ve already tried all of their famous cheesecakes in the past, switching things up with a fully savoury dinner felt like the right call.
Hubby opted for the Philly Beef Premium Wrap ($12.55), and it was a massive hit. It arrived hot and packed with tender beef, crisp peppers, and fresh lettuce. It was so juicy that it was literally dripping onto the plate as he ate it!

For my main, I chose the Turkey & Swiss Baguette Sandwich ($14.40), and oh my goodness, the bread was divine. It nailed that perfect textural contrast: a beautiful, ultra-crispy exterior with an airy, pillowy-soft interior. It came blanketed in melted Swiss cheese, layered with plenty of turkey, and I loved the fresh, clean crunch from the lettuce. I was so happy with this sandwich and would come back just to order it again.

While the food was a home run, the drinks, unfortunately, left a lot to be desired. Hubby decided to test out their 12oz Chocolate Frullato ($6.35). To put it gently... it was not good. The best way to describe it is if you took a classic hot chocolate, watered it down, and tried to blitz it into a icy shake. It just totally missed the mark on rich chocolate flavor.
I didn't fare much better with my 12oz Iced Taro Latte ($5.95) ordered with almond milk. Usually, good taro carries a lovely, distinct nuttiness and comforting earthiness, but this version completely lacked that depth. Instead, it tasted exactly like drinking a glass of purple-tinted sweet milk.

Ultimately, the lunch was a massive win for the savoury kitchen side, even if the beverage bar couldn't quite keep up. I'd happily sprint back for that crispy baguette sandwich on any day.
