After an overwhelming day at work, Hubby picked me up to ensure I did not have to carry my heavy backpack home while recovering from my outpatient surgery. Before heading back, we decided to grab a quick dinner at Wren Café in Yaletown. We were not entirely sure what to expect, but the display case immediately caught our eye, packed with adorable fruit-shaped pastries and cakes!

Supreme Pulled Pork Sandwich
We started with the Supreme Pulled Pork Sandwich ($18.95 CAD) with Truffle Fries as our side. It is fair to call this an open-faced sandwich since it is served on a single piece of bread. The crusty slice comes topped with creamy, crunchy coleslaw, tender pulled pork, and a perfectly cooked poached egg. While the egg was executed flawlessly, the barbecue sauce leaned a bit mild, as the Filipino in me prefers a sweeter, tangier sauce. The truffle fries, however, were absolute perfection.

Little Italy Pasta
Hubby chose the Little Italy Pasta ($15.95 CAD) and added Chicken (+$3.00 CAD). Made with al dente fettuccine, it carries a lovely sweetness from caramelized onions alongside savoury chicken. A slight splash of additional tomato tartness would balance out the sweet-and-sour profile nicely, but it was still a great pasta dish.

Tiramisu
To end our meal, of course, I couldn't resist one of the many delicious looking sweets in that display case. I went for a familiar favourite, the tiramisu, $8.50, and I loved it. Not overly sweet, with a perfect coffee flavour. Honestly, I want to come back in the morning just to see what the rest of that pastry case has to offer.
