Freshslice Pizza Vancouver: Tandoori Paneer & Italian Meat Lovers Review, Cheesy Bread Standout

Because I was on personal leave yesterday, I had quite a full plate today, so we ended up rushing to Costco before closing at 8:30 PM. After that errand run, we grabbed dinner at Freshslice Pizza. We'd been thinking about our idea from last week, grabbing two slices here and another couple from Uncle Fatih's across the street, but we weren't sure where we could comfortably eat both. Since Freshslice has proper tables and a nicer seating area compared to Uncle Fatih's, we decided to stay put and explore what Freshslice had to offer.

Freshslice Pizza on Abbott Street

Location: 663 Abbott St, Vancouver, BC V6B 0J4

Featured Items: Italian Meat Lovers, Tandoori Paneer, Veggie, Butter Chicken (slices), cheesy bread

Price Range: $8.25 for 2 slices & drink with any feast pizza, cheesy bread $7.49

Verdict: A solid neighbourhood pizza spot with surprising flavour variety. The Tandoori Paneer is the real winner, and the cheesy bread is dangerously good.

We ordered four different pizza slices to share: Veggie, Tandoori Paneer, Italian Meat Lovers, and Butter Chicken. I took my first bite of the veggie and butter chicken and honestly thought there wasn't much flavour happening. Then I tried the Italian Meat Lovers and Tandoori Paneer, and suddenly those two were definitely better. When I came back to the veggie and butter chicken, their flavours started to shine a bit more.

Left: Italian Meat Lovers with excellent sausage. Right: Tandoori Paneer, the standout of the bunch.

The veggie is the weakest of the four, with mostly vibrant peppers doing the heavy lifting flavour-wise but not much else. The buttery butter chicken leans heavily sweet, which is okay, but not ideal. I'm not saying it needs to be spicy or anything, just not quite as sweet as it came. The sausage in the Italian Meat Lovers is absolutely excellent, though honestly, quality sausage on any pizza is always going to be good.

But the standout? The new Tandoori Paneer is my favourite of the bunch. It's savoury through and through, with no spiciness, but it's not sickeningly sweet like the butter chicken either. The aromatic spices play beautifully with the melted cheese, creating a flavour profile that's satisfying.

I was still feeling hungry, so I grabbed their cheesy bread ($7.49), and honestly, it was the best thing we had all night. It's so beautifully simple too, just melted cheese on top of their pizza dough, but the execution is perfect. Crispy, golden, cheesy goodness. I'll definitely be coming back for that alone.

The MVP of the night: crispy cheesy bread with perfectly melted cheese.

I'm still keen on our original plan to eat Uncle Fatih's and Freshslice at the same time since they're right across from each other along Abbott Street. I'm sure we'll make that happen at some point, doubling down on pizza night with a side-by-side taste test. For now, Freshslice has earned itself a spot in our regular rotation, especially with the Tandoori Paneer and that cheesy bread calling our names.

Have you tried Freshslice or Uncle Fatih's? What's your favourite pizza slice, or would you be brave enough to eat both in one sitting? Let me know in the comments!
