Qantas QF 94 Inflight Meals, LAX to Melbourne
Flight: QF 94, Los Angeles (LAX) to Melbourne, Australia (15 hours 55 minutes)
Meals Served: Dinner (chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli, or vegetarian pasta) and a hot breakfast before landing
Verdict: The tender chicken and the warm garlicky bread win dinner, and the hot breakfast with a cup of tea is a satisfying way to land.
I think this is my longest flight ever: 15 hours and 55 minutes from Los Angeles, USA to Melbourne, Australia. Our flight (QF 94) left LAX at 8:30 PM on October 15th, and between naps, the first order of business was dinner. Yes, between naps. I didn't even feel the take-off because I was in a deep sleep, and the only reason I woke up was because I smelled food. 🤣
Dinner: Chicken and Vegetarian Pasta
I had no idea what the choices were, but I was sure there would be chicken, so I went with that. Hubby chose the vegetarian pasta. Both meals came with a warm bread roll and a blueberry custard dessert.
My chicken was excellent: tender, flavourful pieces in a creamy mushroom sauce, served with a few florets of bright green broccoli (about five) and silky, creamy mashed potatoes. My favourite part, though, was the warm, garlicky bread. It's possibly a garlic butter spread tucked inside, and it was so good just because it was so warm.

The blueberry custard dessert was good too. It's smooth, creamy and not overly sweet, which is exactly what I want after a big meal at 35,000 feet.
Hubby's vegetarian pasta was okay. He wished there was more sauce, but otherwise it was perfectly edible. It's unusual for me to hear about a third option on a flight, but based on what another passenger got, there was also a rice dish with what looked like beef.

Breakfast Before Landing in Melbourne
I slept the rest of the way. About a couple of hours before landing, we were served breakfast. We couldn't quite understand the second option, so we went with the hot plate: savoury grilled ham, fluffy scrambled eggs, a juicy roasted tomato, tender mushrooms and a no longer crispy golden hash brown.
It was so satisfying, especially with a warm cup of tea. It also came with a creamy strawberry Greek yogurt and a sweet little cupcake-style muffin.

Nearly 16 hours in the air is a lot, but a warm dinner, a good sleep and a hot breakfast made it surprisingly comfortable. Now Melbourne, here we come!
