After finishing my regular dental cleaning at 10:00 AM this morning, I was ready for a reward that did not involve a polishing tool. Hubby and I were on the hunt for a new caffeine sanctuary. I initially asked Gemini for suggestions, but it pointed me toward Nemesis and C Market—both of which we had just explored last week!

We turned to our trusted Google Maps to see what was nearby and Fife Bakery caught our eye. It is a tiny, minimalist space with very limited seating. The few chairs available are really meant for the brief moments you wait for a barista to steam your milk or warm your golden pastry. This is not a place for a long laptop session; it is a place for serious bread lovers.

Man Versus Machine

Watching the quiet precision of the pour over process at Fife. There is something so meditative about seeing water meet coffee with such intention; a true 'Man versus Machine' moment.

Fife has a purist approach to their craft, suggesting that every beverage be enjoyed "as is" to appreciate the profile, though they do provide sugar and dairy for personal adjustments. While I usually look for a vibrant matcha latte, it's not on the menu, so I pivoted to my other reliable favourite: a Velvety Mocha made with Creamy Oat Milk. It was the perfect level of sweetness for someone like me who prefers their coffee to taste like a liquid dessert.

Hubby surprised me by ordering his first-ever Pour Over. He chose the "Man versus Machine" #3, which featured Geisha Honey beans by Jenifer Rojas from Colombia. The flavour profile was incredibly specific, featuring notes of Sweet Honey-Dried Apple, Tangy Pineapple Sorbet, and Floral Black Tea. He described it as strong but deeply flavourful—a sophisticated choice for a Saturday morning.

A Dining Table Picnic

A quiet dining table and my velvety oat milk mocha. Moving our morning from the tiny shop to our window-side sanctuary made every sweet, chocolatey sip feel like home,

While we waited, I couldn't help but eavesdrop on the other customers. It seems their famous sourdough loaves are a hot commodity and almost always sold out. Since the shop is so small, we decided to take our treasures back home to enjoy them at our own dining table by the window.

A study in golden layers. Even after the walk home, this ham and cheddar croissant held its buttery promise—flaky, rich, and worth every crumb.

Even though the short walk meant our food was no longer warm, the quality still shone through. Hubby’s Buttery Ham & Cheddar Croissant chosen remained incredibly flaky.

The savoury heart of our lunch. Wrapped in their signature sourdough pastry, this sausage roll is a seasoned, comforting hug that I'll be thinking about until our next visit.

Meanwhile, my Savoury Sausage Roll was packed with seasoned meat. There is something so amazing about discovering a new spot and then enjoying it in the quiet peace of your own home.
