Nana's Green Tea Vancouver Review: The Ultimate Matcha Parfait

✨ At a Glance: Quick Facts

📍 Location: Nana's Green Tea (Vancouver, BC)
🍵 Ordered: Hot Matcha Latte ($8.60 + $1.10 oat milk), Matcha Swiss Roll ($8.30), Matcha Shiratama Parfait ($17.10)
⭐ Smooch Verdict: An absolute paradise for green tea purists! While the Swiss roll was sadly a bit on the dry side, the unsweetened ceremonial matcha latte was flawlessly smooth, and the decadent, multi-textured parfait was worth every single spoonful.

Matcha has my whole heart. My absolute favourite colour is green, which is honestly the original reason I always found myself ordering it! But as I have tried it over the years, I recently realised that my absolute absolute favourite way to enjoy it (and the healthiest version for my personal wellness goals) is unsweetened with oat milk. Lately, I have been making it a mission to order this exact version at every coffee shop I visit across Vancouver.

Up until now, my reigning favourites have been C Market Cafe and, over in Downtown Vancouver, Ciclo Espresso. What makes those two stand out is that they have zero bitterness, yet they are never watered down with too much milk. They allow high-quality, ceremonial-grade green tea to truly shine. I have also learned through my taste tests that cafes using authentic Uji matcha are usually a cut above the rest.

After Sunday Mass today, Hubby and I decided to enjoy the beautiful weather and walk home. Because it was quite warm out, we immediately started craving ice cream. I did a quick Google Maps search for cool treats nearby, and Nana's Green Tea popped up on the screen as open. Yes! Finally!

Flawlessly smooth and unsweetened: The Hot Oat Milk Matcha Latte ($9.70).

I have been wanting to visit this spot for a very long time, but our schedules and their operating hours never seemed to align. But today, the stars aligned. Of course, I immediately ordered my usual: a hot Matcha Latte ($8.60) with oat milk (+$1.10). It comes unsweetened by default, and it was absolutely excellent. There was no bitterness whatsoever, and it wasn't diluted by the milk, allowing the beautiful, subtle layers of the green tea to take centre stage.

The gorgeous Matcha Swiss Roll ($8.30), which unfortunately leaned a little dry.

To accompany my drink, I paired it with the Matcha Swiss Roll ($8.30). It looked absolutely stunning and picture-perfect on the plate, but unfortunately, the cake texture itself was a little bit dry. It was a bit of a disappointment given how lovely the cream inside tasted.

The ultimate showstopper: The multi-textured Matcha Shiratama Parfait ($17.10).

Hubby hit the absolute jackpot with his order, though! He went with the magnificent Matcha Shiratama Parfait ($17.10), and it was spectacular. I stole a few bites and fell completely in love with how the deep green tea flavours blended with the soft, gentle sweetness of the red bean paste and the creamy vanilla soft serve. The texture profile was brilliant too, featuring crunchy cornflakes at the bottom paired with sticky, beautifully chewy mochi dango on top. Oh my goodness. It left me completely craving more parfaits in my life!
