My operation wound is still quite ginger, making the simple act of walking up and down stairs a bit of a challenge lately. Navigating the commute for my in-office days requires a little extra care right now, so my husband decided to accompany me on my way to work this morning. He carried my heavy backpack and even plugged in my laptop so I would not have to bend down under the table.

After making sure my things were all settled, we took a stroll down to the Park Place Concourse on Burrard Street to ensure he could finally try WA-BAGEL. Because they are only open from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday to Friday, the chances to grab their bagels are quite limited, making this morning detour even more special. Instead of going for their usual sandwiches, we decided to get their classic sourdough plain bagels paired with two different cream cheese flavours: shiso ume and yuzu. Of course, we also shared the red bean cream cheese bagel, which I just wrote about last Thursday!

The shiso ume is the more savoury of the two options, but it is actually quite hard to pinpoint exactly what it tastes like. It is not aggressively salty or super savoury. Instead, it offers a very subtle and delicate flavour profile that makes it incredibly easy to enjoy early in the morning.

Meanwhile, we were both quite surprised by how sweet and tarty the yuzu cream cheese turned out to be! We were definitely expecting a sharp tartness from the citrus, but the added sweetness was a pleasant twist that balanced the spread beautifully.
After our breakfast, we walked back to the office together, and hubby headed back home. Having that extra bit of help and getting to share a lovely morning bite made the start of the workday so much brighter.
