BC Momo Review: Traditional Jhol Buff Momo & Spicy Laphing in Vancouver

Finally! After weeks of waiting, someone in our company finally won the weekly contest and chose dumplings as the theme for our weekly team lunch. Naturally, we walked over to nearby BC Momo to indulge in some authentic Nepalese dumplings. I have tried several variations here, all with buff (water buffalo) filling and the classic steamed style standing out as a personal best.

Spot Details: BC Momo

  • Address: 678 Seymour Street, Vancouver, BC
  • Featured Items: Jhol Buff Momo and Laphing
  • Price: Jhol Buff Momo $18.00, Laphing $14.00
  • Verdict: Gloriously steamed dumplings in a flavourful, comforting broth with a fiery side of laphing!

Jhol Buff Momo

Today, I decided to try the more traditional Jhol Buff Momo priced at $18.00. The first bite of the soup or broth instantly reminded me of a less tarty version of tom yum soup. It has a wonderful sour kick that is not quite pucker level, balanced with a deeply savoury profile. Of course, the dumplings themselves are just absolutely gloriously steamed.

Laphing

We also shared an order of laphing for $14.00, which packs quite a punch with its serious spice level, featuring wrappers filled with crunchy fried noodles and peanuts.

I absolutely love BC Momo and can hardly wait to try the rest of their menu flavours. A colleague gave me a small bite of the Afghani momo during our lunch, and I still think it is the absolute best of the lot, though I definitely want to order a full plate just for myself next time!
