Happy New Year! There is something so sacred about the first meal of the year. For us, it’s a tradition that begins with Mass and ends with the familiar comfort of Earls. It’s our way of saying "hello" to another year of adventures, one bite at a time.
The Main Event: Crab Cake Benedict
On the first day of 2024, I went for the Crab Cake Benedict. Imagine your usual eggs benedict, but instead of finding the traditional English muffin, you find a jumbo lump crab cake. It is seasoned perfectly and formed into a patty that offers a satisfyingly crispy exterior before giving way to a tender, flavourful interior.

Earls elevates this dish even further with succulent prawns and a velvety hollandaise that ties the whole thing together. Every bite is a dance of textures: the snap of the prawn, the richness of the yolk, and the delicate crab. It’s served with their signature Potato Pavé, which is meticulously layered and baked to perfection, and a side of Spring Greens that provide the refreshing contrast a heavy brunch needs. I am honestly mindblown by this little potato. Imagine the potato tornado but with baby potatoes instead: just mindblowing.
Sweet Traditions & Savoury Steaks
While I went the seafood route, Hubby stuck to a classic: the Filet + Peppercorn. It’s his kind of "smooch-worthy" comfort, which is a tender filet topped with a bold, savoury peppercorn gravy accompanied by those creamy garlic mashed potatoes he loves so much.

And because a New Year's celebration isn't complete without a little sweetness, we shared the Molten Gingerbread Cake. With its white chocolate ganache and spicy gingerbread cookie crumble, it was the warm hug our taste buds needed to end the meal.
