Avo + Chicken Sandwich and Red Lentil + Green Soup from Tractor

Sundays are for family, faith, and unexpected deliciousness. After a heartwarming service at Mass, we embarked on a mission to Costco, but hunger pangs detoured us to a familiar favourite – Tractor. This modern cafeteria-style restaurant is a haven for healthy and flavorful eats, perfect for satisfying cravings without sacrificing your health goals.

My husband opted for the Classic Meatballs sandwich. This behemoth featured a blend of ground beef and pork, seasoned with breadcrumbs, egg, and spices, all nestled in a toasted bun and topped with a slow-roasted tomato sauce. One bite (generously offered by him) revealed the juicy meatballs perfectly complemented by the rich and tangy tomato sauce.

For myself, I leaned towards the Avo + Chicken Sandwich. This seemingly lighter option was anything but boring. A perfectly grilled half avocado, seasoned with salt, pepper, a touch of olive oil, and a squeeze of lemon, provided a creamy and flavorful base. Nestled atop this was a succulent grilled chicken breast seasoned with rosemary and garlic. The combination was fresh, healthy, and surprisingly filling.

I opted for a side of the Red Lentil + Greens Soup to complete my healthy and hearty lunch. This vibrant concoction featured red lentils simmered with celery, onion, carrot, and potato, all infused with a touch of lemon. A finishing touch of fresh spinach added a pop of colour and nutrients.

By the time we finished our delicious Tractor feast, we were satisfied and energized to tackle our Costco adventure.

Filipino Restaurant Month: Max's Restaurant

Continuing our Filipino Restaurant Month adventure, we ventured to the iconic Max's Restaurant, a name synonymous with delicious Filipino comfort food. Their set menu for the event offered a delightful taste of their culinary repertoire.

Appetizers:

Max's Restaurant Month menu differed from Goldilocks' in its focus on curated choices. We began by selecting an appetizer each:

Calamares and Lumpiang Shanghai from Max's Restaurant

  • Calamari: Tender squid rings dipped in a light batter, then deep-fried to crispy perfection. The accompanying vinegar garlic dip added a delightful tangy touch.
  • Lumpiang Shanghai: Spring rolls filled with a savoury blend of ground pork and vegetables are deep-fried to a golden brown. The sweet and sour dipping sauce provides a perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavors.

Both appetizers were delicious, and by choosing one each, we got to share the delightful experience!

Entrees

For the main course, we opted for contrasting yet equally tempting choices:

  • Lechon Kawali Kare-Kare: This dish was a symphony of textures and flavours. Crispy Lechon Kawali (deep-fried pork belly) sat atop a bed of vegetables, all bathed in a rich and creamy peanut sauce. While I would have loved a slightly more generous portion of the kare-kare sauce, the overall flavour profile was divine.

A classic Filipino stew with a thick peanut sauce topped with a mix of vegetables and Max's very own Lechon Kawali (Crispy Pork Belly). Served with Max's bagoong (shrimp paste).

  • Dencio's Pork Sisig: This sizzling plate of chopped, crispy pork was a true crowd-pleaser. Generously sprinkled with minced onions and served on a hot plate, it offered a delightful play of textures and a burst of savoury flavours.

The famous Dencio's sisig, made of chopped crispy pork generously sprinkled with minced onions and served on a sizzling plate with rice.

Sweet Endings

No Filipino meal is complete without dessert, so we finished our Max's Restaurant experience on a sweet note:

  • Saba Con Yelo: This refreshing dessert featured sweetened saba bananas (plantains) nestled in a bed of shaved ice, drizzled with milk, and topped with a scoop of ice cream. While a touch more banana would have been perfect for me, the overall taste and texture were delightful.
  • Mais Con Yelo: This vibrant dessert showcased a classic Filipino favourite – creamed corn and sweet corn kernels. Shaved ice, milk, ice cream, cornflakes, and a sprinkle of cheese transformed this simple combination into a textural and flavour explosion.

It had been a while since our last visit to Max's Restaurant, and this Filipino Restaurant Month experience reignited our love for their classic dishes. Each bite was a delicious reminder of home, and the generous portions ensured we felt happy and satisfied. Max's Restaurant's curated menu perfectly introduced its culinary specialties, making it a must-visit for anyone embarking on a Filipino food adventure.

Self-Care Soiree: A Night of Boston Pizza, Books, and Bliss

Happy Thursday! With my husband away for an event, I decided to treat myself to a delightful date night for one. My destination? None other than the familiar comfort of Boston Pizza.

While Boston Pizza might not be the first place that springs to mind for a solo evening, it offers the perfect combination of casual vibes and delicious comfort food. I began my self-care soiree with their signature Cactus Cut Potatoes. These thinly sliced and perfectly seasoned fries were perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Dipped in their addictive cactus dip, they were a flavour explosion in every bite.

Spicy and thinly sliced fried potatoes. Served with the signature cactus dip.

I opted for the Classic Nachos with BBQ Chicken for my main course. A generous portion of hand-cut tortilla chips served as the base for a mountain of goodness. Melty cheddar and pizza mozzarella cheese formed a delicious foundation, joined by a vibrant mix of green peppers, olives, jalapeƱo peppers, tomatoes, and green onions. The star of the show, however, was the BBQ chicken. Tender and flavorful, it added a delightful smoky sweetness to every bite.

With my taste buds satisfied, I turned my attention to another kind of indulgence – a good book. Curling up with Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers, I embarked on a fascinating journey into the world of success. To my surprise, the atmosphere at Boston Pizza, usually bustling with families and groups, provided a surprisingly tranquil backdrop for my literary adventure. Two hours flew by as I devoured chapter after chapter, whollyy engrossed in Gladwell's thought-provoking exploration of what makes outliers stand out.

A date with Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers

This solo date night at Boston Pizza was more than a delicious meal. It was a time for self-care, intellectual exploration, and pure enjoyment.

Love Meat from Japadog

Happy Wednesday! My younger sister decided to conquer her schoolwork at the Vancouver Public Library's central location. Conveniently, my office is just across the street from VPL, making a lunchtime rendezvous a perfect way to catch up.

We decided to head to the iconic Japadog for lunch. For my meal, I opted for the Love Meat. This flavour powerhouse features arabiki pork, a succulent and flavorful ground pork variety. Adding melty cheese and a rich meat sauce made with beef and pork brought this hot dog to a new level. To balance the richness and add a refreshing touch, I grabbed a Japanade Original Lemonade. The tangy sweetness of the lemonade perfectly complemented the savoury flavours of the hot dog.

Love Meat from Japadog

No Japadog visit is complete without indulging in their legendary chicken dashi. This Japanese-style fried chicken lives up to the hype. It boasts a juicy, tender interior encased with a crispy, flavorful golden brown exterior. Each bite was a delightful explosion of textures and tastes.

Chicken Karaage from Japadog

Of course, the real treat of this lunch break was the opportunity to catch up with my sister. Buffalo Chicken Poutine and Classic Hot Dog from Cineplex Outtakes

Craving movie snacks but on the fence about the Cineplex Outtakes menu? Look no further! Today's blog post dives into two of their classic offerings – the Classic Hot Dog and the Buffalo Chicken Poutine.

The Classic Hot Dog: A Disappointment at the Concession Stand

Let's start with the Classic Hot Dog. This seemingly simple menu item unfortunately fell short of expectations. The hot dog itself lacked flavour, and the overall experience felt uninspired. While it might satisfy a basic hunger pang, there are definitely more exciting options on the Outtakes menu.

Classic Hot Dog from Cineplex

The Buffalo Chicken Poutine: A Tangy Twist

Next up is the Buffalo Chicken Poutine. This dish offered a more adventurous flavour profile. Crispy fries were generously smothered in gravy and cheese curds, then topped with a generous helping of buffalo chicken. While the concept was intriguing, the execution wasn't quite there. The buffalo sauce was overly tangy, overpowering the other flavours. If you have a high tolerance for spice and tang, you might enjoy this dish. Otherwise, it might be a bit too much for your taste buds.

Buffalo Chicken Poutine from Cineplex

While these two specific dishes weren't winners for me, Cineplex Outtakes offers a wide variety of other options, from popcorn to pulled pork sandwiches. It's always a good idea to browse the whole menu before making your choice.

Chicken Noodle Soup from Lin Chinese Cuisine

Craving a soul-warming hug in a bowl? Look no further than the Chicken Noodle Soup at Lin Chinese Cuisine, a Vancouver staple known for its authentic Northern Chinese and Sichuan dishes.

The foundation of this delicious soup is a rich and flavorful chicken broth. Simmered for hours with a medley of fragrant spices and aromatics, the broth boasts a complex depth of flavour that warms you from the inside out. Filipino Restaurant Month: Goldilocks

As a Filipino-Canadian who's lived in Vancouver for almost 10 years, I was absolutely thrilled to hear about Filipino Restaurant Month! This entire month is dedicated to celebrating my home country's rich and diverse cuisine at participating restaurants across Metro Vancouver. My goal? To embark on a delicious adventure and try them all!

Filipino Restaurant Month: Goldilocks

This past Sunday, after a heartwarming service at Mass, my taste buds were primed for a Filipino food adventure. We headed straight to Goldilocks, a familiar and comforting name that brought back childhood memories. They offered two unique Filipino Restaurant Month combos, and we decided to go all in and try them both!

Prix Fixe Menu 1

Prix Fixe Menu 1 featured the following items:

  • Lechon Laing: This spicy, creamy concoction made with taro leaves and crispy pork was a revelation! The complex flavours and textures had me going back for bite after bite.
  • Empanada: While the concept of a savoury pastry filled with meat was familiar, the execution was off for Hubby.
  • Sago't Gulaman: This refreshing dessert of tapioca pearls and jellied seaweed, sweetened with palm sugar, was a delightful and nostalgic ending to the meal.

Prix Fixe Menu 1 from Goldilocks Canada

Prix Fixe Menu 2

Prix Fixe Menu 2 offered a different set of Filipino favourites:

  • Pork BBQ: Skewered and grilled pork marinated in a sweet and savoury sauce – a crowd-pleaser that lived up to its name.
  • Palabok: A noodle dish with shrimp, pork, and a special orange sauce – while decent, it didn't quite hit the mark for either of us.
  • Pritong Lumpia: Spring rolls filled with savoury vegetables and meat – similar to the empanada, it wasn't quite what we were hoping for.
  • Ube Sago: This vibrant purple dessert with ube (purple yam) jam, tapioca pearls, and coconut milk was a textural and flavour explosion – a definite winner!

Prix Fixe Menu 2 from Goldilocks Canada

While this first Filipino Restaurant Month experience had its ups and downs, it highlighted the vast and diverse world of Filipino cuisine. Each region in the Philippines boasts its specialties and variations of classic dishes. Goldilocks offered a familiar and comforting starting point, but I can't wait to explore the unique offerings at the other restaurants on my list:

Stay tuned for my next Filipino Restaurant Month adventure! I'll be sharing my experiences, the hits, the misses, and all the delicious discoveries along the way. Hopefully, this blog will inspire you to embark on your own Filipino food journey and discover the magic of this incredible cuisine.

Crispy Cod Burger from Triple O's

Happy birthday to my brother! To celebrate, we decided to indulge in some juicy burgers at Triple O's, a Vancouver institution famous for its award-winning patties. As a self-proclaimed burger aficionado, I've meticulously documented my Triple O's adventures on this blog, and guess what? I've devoured all their beef and chicken burger offerings!

Beef Burgers Chicken Burgers

This time, I decided on the Crispy Cod Burger. Intrigued by the promise of crispy fish nestled within a toasted bun, I took the plunge. To complete this culinary adventure, I opted for my all-time favourite Triple O's side, Garlic Parmesan Fries. I played it safe with a classic iced drink for a refreshing beverage.

Two Ocean Wise crispy beer-battered Pacific cod fillets, crisp iceberg lettuce, fresh vine-ripened tomatoes, red onion, and tartar sauce with our signature pickle on top.

The Crispy Cod Burger was a revelation! The star of the show was undoubtedly the fish fillet. It boasted a crisp golden exterior, encasing a surprisingly tender and flaky interior. The subtle sweetness of the fish was beautifully complemented by the crisp iceberg lettuce, fresh vine-ripened tomatoes, and red onions. A dollop of tartar sauce added a touch of tang, while the classic Triple O's sesame seed bun held everything together perfectly.

So next time you're at Triple O's and feeling adventurous, try the Crispy Cod Burger—you won't be disappointed!

French Onion Cheeseburger from Wendy's Canada

Happy Saturday! Hubby and I are excited to be heading to Richmond, BC, today. We're visiting family and celebrating my brother's birthday—it's going to be a fun-filled Saturday! But before we hop on the train, we decided to fuel up with a late lunch at Wendy's. Wendy's recently launched some intriguing new menu items, so we couldn't resist giving them a try!

Wendy's French Onion Cheeseburger

Our main course was Wendy's recent release, the French Onion Cheeseburger. This beauty boasts a juicy, never-frozen square beef patty as its foundation, but the true magic lies in the toppings.

Wendy's French Onion Cheeseburger

Imagine this: caramelized and crispy onions and a generous helping of melty cheese nestled on a warm, toasted bun. The sweetness of the caramelized onions is perfectly balanced by the savoury richness of the cheese. Moreover, crispy onions add a much-needed texture. Although, I am still uncertain what makes this "French."

A Bite-Sized Treat: The Cinnabon Pull-Apart

We couldn't leave Wendy's without indulging in their new sweet treat – the Cinnabon Pull-Apart. This delightful creation is a collaboration between Wendy's and the iconic Cinnabon brand.

Cinnabon® Pull-Apart from Wendy's

Imagine a warm, gooey pastry oozing with cinnamon flavour, generously drizzled with a sweet cream cheese frosting. The pull-apart format makes it perfect for sharing. It's a delicious bite-sized indulgence that perfectly satisfies your sweet tooth cravings. I am not a fan of cinnamon (in general), so I am trying this, but I gave most to my hubby.

Royal Waffle from Le Petit Belge

Happy Friday! I invited my youngest sister, a bright 21-year-old who works part-time at Eggspectation, to spend a couple hours with me downtown. My goal? To give her a glimpse into the world of professional offices and spark a fire for her future career aspirations.

After a productive morning and a sweet interlude at Bisou Bake House, we returned to the office for a quick wrap-up. As if on cue, we spotted Mom and my other sister crossing the street, ready to join our day of exploration!

With a full family crew assembled, it was time for lunch. Luckily, my sister did research beforehand. Le Petit Belge, a haven for all things waffle, was her choice. This charming restaurant, specializing in both sweet and savoury waffles, was the ideal destination to satisfy everyone's cravings.

Knowing our appetites, my husband and I shared a Salmon Benny. This delightful creation featured perfectly sliced smoked salmon, creamy avocado, and two poached eggs, all lovingly nestled on a golden brown waffle. The crowning touch was a dollop of homemade hollandaise sauce, adding a touch of richness to every bite. This dish offered the perfect savoury fix, with the fluffy waffle base providing a delightful textural contrast to the silky smooth eggs and creamy sauce.

Sliced smoked salmon, avocado, and two poached eggs are topped with homemade hollandaise sauce and smashed oven-baked potatoes and served on a waffle.

For the sweet finale, we opted for the Royal Waffle. This majestic creation showcased a Brussels waffle as its base, a canvas upon which a vibrant display of flavours danced. Fresh strawberries, a cloud of whipped cream, and a drizzle of Belgian chocolate transformed this waffle into a dessert masterpiece. Every bite was an explosion of sweetness and contrasting textures – the soft waffle, the juicy strawberries, and the decadent chocolate – making it a genuinely share-worthy indulgence.

Our family happily occupied a spacious corner table at Le Petit Belge. The restaurant's warm and inviting atmosphere perfectly complemented the delicious food and the joy of being together. Laughter filled the air as we shared stories, savoured our waffles, and created lasting memories.

Spiral Croissant from Bisou Bake House

Happy Friday! I invited my youngest sister, a bright 21-year-old who works part-time at Eggspectation, to spend a couple hours with me downtown. My goal? To give her a glimpse into the world of professional offices and spark a fire for her future career aspirations.

After a productive morning tackling emails, I decided to take a well-deserved break. The delightful Bisou Bake House is conveniently located in the lobby of nearby Telus Gardens. This haven of delicious pastries was the perfect spot for a sugary pick-me-up and some quality sisterly time.

Bisou Bake House boasts a tempting array of pastries, and with my husband joining us for this sweet interlude, we opted to share a selection. My sister gravitated towards the Nutella Folded.

Nutella Folded from Bisou Bake House

Meanwhile, my husband and I decided to split the Spiral Croissant. The flaky buttery base formed the foundation for this masterpiece. Half dipped in rich chocolate and sprinkled with crushed pistachios, the croissant offered a delightful textural contrast – the crispness of the chocolate and pistachios against the soft, flaky pastry. The hidden treasure within was a decadent Nutella filling, adding another layer of deliciousness to every bite.

Spiral Croissant from Bisou Bake House

While enjoying our pastries, I took the opportunity to show my sister around the break room and other common areas of the office. It was a chance for her to experience the collaborative and dynamic environment many professional settings offer. Hopefully, this glimpse into the world of work will inspire her to dream big and pursue a career path that excites and fulfills her.

Akamaru Ramen and Yakitori from Kokoro Ramen

It's that time of year again – tax season! For some, it's a breeze, and for others, it can be a bit dreadful. But one thing's for sure: it always calls for a meal afterward! For the past three years, Kokoro Ramen on Victoria Street has been our post-tax-filing tradition.

Shio Tonkotsu Ramen

My husband opted for the Shio Tonkotsu Ramen. This classic dish features a rich pork broth, a testament to the long hours of simmering that create its complex flavour. Green onions, fried onions, kikurage mushrooms, and bamboo shoots add colour and texture, while black garlic oil lends a touch of smokiness. The star of the show, however, is the pork chashu. These melt-in-your-mouth slices of pork belly are slow-cooked to perfection, adding a decadent richness to the overall dish. When he offered me a spoonful of the broth, I was instantly captivated by its thick, almost creamy texture. It was a warm and comforting hug in a bowl.

Akamaru Ramen

For me, a little spice is always a good thing. That's why I gravitated towards the Akamaru Ramen. This fiery creation boasts the same rich pork broth as the Shio Tonkotsu but with the added kick of a spicy sauce. My first slurp was an explosion – the heat hitting my taste buds head-on. But Kokoro Ramen knows how to balance the elements. The creamy egg yolk and the savoury, tender chashu offered a delightful counterpoint to the heat, creating a sweet, flavorful, and spicy symphony in every bite. It was a flavour adventure that kept me returning for more despite the initial fiery blast.

Yakitori Feast

To complete our ramen feast, we took advantage of a delightful deal – 50% off yakitori (grilled skewered chicken and meat)! This was perfect for sharing and exploring different flavours. We ordered one of each variety – chicken momo (thigh), chicken negima (thigh with Japanese leek), chicken tsukune (meatball), and lean beef steak.

Yakitori from Kokoro Ramen
From left to right: chicken tsukune, chicken momo, chicken negima, and lean beef steak

Each skewer was cooked to perfection— juicy and flavorful. While they were all delicious, myfavouritess were the chicken negima, where the sweetness of the leek beautifully complemented the chicken, and the lean beef steak, offering asatisfying savouryy option.

If you're looking for a delicious and comforting meal or simply a place to celebrate (or drown your sorrows) after tax season, look no further than Kokoro Ramen.

Pelicana Signature Yang Nyum Chicken

Happy Thursday! It's that time of the week again – company-paid lunch day! This week, we embarked on a culinary journey to Korea, with Pelicana Chicken as our delicious destination.

I opted for the classic – boneless chicken coated in Pelicana's signature Mild (Yang Nyum) sauce. This vibrant red sauce is the stuff of Korean fried chicken legend. The sweet and slightly spicy flavour profile is exactly what you crave, offering a delightful dance on the taste buds. The crispy golden exterior of the chicken was pure perfection – a satisfying crunch with every bite. However, the interior experience was a bit of a mixed bag. Some pieces boasted juicy, tender chicken, while others leaned a touch dry.

#22 Pelicana Signature Mild Chicken (Yang Nyum)

No Korean fried chicken experience is complete without complementary sides. My plate came with a generous portion of fries – the perfect vehicle for mopping up any leftover sauce. Meanwhile, the coleslaw offered a welcome contrast – a refreshing and crunchy counterpoint to the richness of the chicken.

While Pelicana's Mild (Yang Nyum) chicken lived up to the hype in terms of flavour and crispness, the inconsistency in the chicken's interior moisture prevents it from being an absolute home run. However, it was a delightful introduction for those new to Korean fried chicken and a fun team lunch adventure overall.

Domino's Pizza Stuffed Cheesy Bread with Philly Steak

Calling all Philly cheesesteak fanatics and cheesy bread aficionados! This blog post is for you. Today, we're diving into Domino's Pizza Stuffed Cheesy Bread with Philly Steak – a flavour explosion waiting to happen.

A Cheesy Adventure with a Philly Twist

Domino's Stuffed Cheesy Bread is a new variant in the Stuffed Cheesy Bread family. The generously oven-baked breadsticks, bursting with melty mozzarella and cheddar cheese, are a delicious indulgence in themselves. But Domino's takes it up a notch with their Philly Steak variation. This cheesy delight is packed with tender slices of steak, along with the classic trio of green peppers, mushrooms, and onions. Each bite is a satisfying combination of the gooey cheese, the savoury steak, and the crisp vegetables – all working in harmony to create a flavour fiesta.

Domino's Pizza Stuffed Cheesy Bread with Philly Steak
Our oven-baked breadsticks are generously stuffed with white cheddar and mozzarella cheese, tender slices of Philly steak, onions, green peppers, and mushrooms — covered with a blend of even more mozzarella and cheddar cheese. They are seasoned with a touch of garlic and Romano.

My Verdict: Cheesy Bliss (But Maybe a Touch More Steak Would Be Divine)

I would have loved a slightly more generous helping of steak within the cheesy bread. However, the overall flavour profile was undeniably delicious. The cheese factor was definitely on point – a delightful combination of creamy mozzarella and sharp cheddar.

This wasn't my first foray into the world of Domino's Stuffed Cheesy Bread. I've previously savoured the Pepperoni version, the vibrant Spinach & Feta option, and the fiery Bacon & Jalapeno creation.

14" Hand-tossed Philly Steak Pizza

Our love for Philly cheesesteaks didn't stop at the cheesy bread. We also indulged in a 14-inch Hand-Tossed Philly Steak pizza. This beauty featured all the classic elements — tender steak, crisp green peppers, savoury mushrooms, and sweet onions. The white cheddar cheese and provolone added a delightful richness, while the hand-tossed crust provided the perfect foundation for all these delicious ingredients.

Ham & Cheese Croissant and Bacon & Chives Scone from Lumine Coffee

Happy Sunday! After the reflective and heartening Easter Sunday Mass, my husband and I craved a warm and inviting atmosphere to unwind. With its reputation for delicious coffee and inviting ambiance, Lumine Coffee seemed like the perfect destination.

Stepping inside, we were greeted by a delightful surprise. The cafe, while spacious, bustled with activity. The air vibrated with conversation and the intoxicating aroma of freshly brewed coffee. It was a scene that felt both energizing and comforting, the perfect post-Easter pick-me-up.

Mocha from Lumine Coffee

We settled into comfy seats, eager to explore Lumine's offerings. For my caffeine fix, I opted for an 8oz mocha. The rich, chocolatey flavour perfectly complemented the smooth coffee base, creating a delightful, warm beverage. My husband chose a 6oz flat white. The smaller size allowed him to savour the complete flavour profile of the espresso.

Flat White from Lumine Coffee

For food, I gravitated towards the classic ham & cheese croissant. The buttery, flaky pastry was a delight, but the real star was the cheese. Melted to an ooey-gooey perfection, it oozed out with every bite, creating a textural and flavour explosion that was simply ridiculously good.

Ham & Cheese Croissant from Lumine Coffee

However, the true winner of our brunch date was my husband's choice — the bacon and chive scone. This unassuming pastry turned out to be a revelation. The exterior boasted an unexpectedly crisp texture, offering a delightful contrast to the soft and savoury interior. Each bite was a symphony of flavours and textures—the smoky bacon, the fragrant chives, and the buttery scone — perfectly balanced and utterly delicious.

Our post-Easter visit to Lumine Coffee was a delightful way to cap off the holiday weekend. Its vibrant atmosphere, delicious coffee, and delectable pastries provided the perfect space to connect, unwind, and savour simple pleasures.

Spicy Creamy Vegan Ramen from JINYA Ramen Bar

Happy Thursday! It's the last workday before a long weekend, and with Holy Week in full swing, I decided to observe a meatless Maundy Thursday. Thankfully, delicious options abound, and our company-paid lunch adventure took us to the nearby JINYA Ramen Bar.

As a self-proclaimed foodie, I'm always looking for exciting culinary experiences. Today's exploration led me to the Spicy Creamy Vegan Ramen. This vibrant bowl was a revelation – a symphony of flavours and textures that defied the myth that vegan food lacks depth. The rich vegetable broth formed a flavorful base, perfectly complemented by the tofu, green onion, spinach, crispy onion, garlic chips, garlic oil, chilli oil, and sesame seeds. Each element added a unique note to the overall taste profile, creating an exceptional experience. And let's not forget the thick noodles, which provided a satisfyingly chewy contrast to the soft vegetables and creamy broth.

This dish was a testament to the creativity and innovation in the vegan culinary world. It wasn't just "meatless food" – it was a delicious creation in its own right, bursting with flavour and texture. So, a big "yay" not just for this Holy Week discovery but for the entire world of vegan cuisine that continues to surprise and delight!

Caprese from Giovanne Caffe

Happy Wednesday! The workday was in full swing, and my focus was laser-sharp on the task at hand. Suddenly, a message from Mom popped up on my screen. She was downtown Vancouver, a stone's throw away from the office! We decided to head to the conveniently located Giovane Cafe, nestled in the lobby of my office building, for lunch. It was a perfect little oasis amidst the workday hustle.

Mocha from Giovanne Caffe

Over steaming cups of mocha, we reconnected. Mom opted for the Manzo, a symphony of flavours featuring rosemary balsamic roast beef, caciocavallo cheese, peppery arugula, and a touch of roasted garlic aioli.

As for me, my current culinary fixation – the Caprese – was a no-brainer. Fresh fior di latte cheese, vibrant basil pesto, and juicy Roma tomatoes – a classic combination that never disappoints. Every bite was a refreshing burst of flavour, a testament to the simplicity of good ingredients. Perhaps it's the vibrant colours, the perfect balance of textures, or the sheer deliciousness, but this Caprese addiction shows no signs of abating!

But beyond the delicious food, the true joy of this lunch break was the company. Stealing a moment to connect with Mom amidst the daily grind was a gift I cherished. We shared stories, laughed, and simply enjoyed each other's presence.

Bomboloni from Giovanne Caffe

Oh, and to top it all off, I couldn't resist indulging in a luscious bomboloni – a lovely ending to a perfect afternoon.
