Happy Sunday! I hope your morning is off to a peaceful start. When my alarm went off at 6:00 AM today, I made a quick decision to turn it right off and reset it for two hours later. Because of that extra bit of cozy morning sleep, we ended up attending the 11:00 AM Mass at St. Patrick's instead of our usual 9:00 AM service. Honestly, it was a lovely shift in our routine!

Afterward, we took a nice stroll over to Whisk Matcha Cafe x Level V Bakery, which sits right near the Mount Pleasant branch of the Vancouver Public Library.

You won't be surprised to hear that I immediately ordered my usual: an unsweetened matcha latte, which here is their Premium Matcha Soy Latte ($6.50). It came out with the prettiest heart-shaped latte art! While their version is genuinely good and comforting, I have to be completely honest that after trying the matcha lattes at Emeri and Nana's Green Tea recently, Whisk might just have been dethroned as the best spot in the city.

However, Hubby absolutely won the ordering game today with his FIFA Floatie ($12.95). This magnificent treat features an iced matcha oat milk latte topped with a generous swirl of matcha soft serve, a rich matcha drizzle, crunchy cocoa bits, and it's all served up in a white chocolate-coated cup! The quality of the matcha sundae on top was absolutely perfect. It had that distinct, slightly bitter edge and deep earthiness you always hope for in high-quality matcha. Plus, this fun creation is part of the ongoing Vancouver Ice Cream Festival!

Because I'm a massive fan of savoury foods, we decided to skip the usual sweet pastries and try two of their savoury danishes instead: the Sausage & Cheese Danish ($5.50) and the intriguing Chicken Katsu Danish ($5.50).

I always tend to associate danishes with sweet fruits like pears or berries, so diving into savoury variations felt like an unusual and fun adventure! The Sausage & Cheese version felt very familiar, reminding me of an open-faced pizza built on a flaky pastry crust. On the other hand, the Chicken Katsu Danish was incredibly unique! It features a tender chicken cutlet drizzled with that classic sweet-and-savoury katsu sauce, sitting right on top of that same flaky danish base.

Honestly, seeing all the gorgeous, intricate cakes and treats waiting in their display case made me realize I'll definitely be making another trip back here to explore the sweeter side of their menu.
