Elaichi Patisserie was part of the first batch of Flavours of Hope, so their name has been on my radar for a while. I got to enjoy their pastries back in October 2023 at BC Culture Days organized by Pacific Arts Market, and of course I follow them on Instagram. When I saw they were opening a physical store, I was so happy and proud. Supporting small local family businesses is the best.
Elaichi Patisserie, Mount Pleasant (Soft Opening)
Location: 2821 Main St, Vancouver, BC V5T 3G1 (Main Street between 12th and 13th Ave)
Featured Items: Samosa Croissant ($6.25 + tax), Chai & Cookie Croissant ($8.50 + tax), Chai ($4.50 + tax)
Seating: No tables, but there is a comfy couch. Plan to take your croissant and chai to go.
Verdict: A proud, delicious local opening. The samosa croissant is a must-try, and the chai and cookie croissant is perfectly flaky and not overly sweet.
They are still in their soft opening (they only opened yesterday!), and we just had to pop in today for breakfast after 9:00 AM Mass at St. Patrick's.

| Elaichi Patisserie on Main Street: French pastries, Indian flavours, baked fresh daily. |
We got a couple of warm, spiced chai ($4.50 + tax), which we enjoyed afterwards while walking. I thought it was stronger and had more flavour than Chai Wagon, but then I realized I just needed to stir it a bit to bring up the sweetness lingering at the bottom of my cup.
Elaichi prides itself on Indian flavours made with French techniques, so of course I had to try the samosa croissant ($6.25 + tax). Imagine a savoury, well-spiced samosa filling of tender potato and peas, but instead of a hard fried shell, it's tucked inside a flaky, soft, buttery croissant. I need more of this, please.

Hubby went for the Chai & Cookie Croissant ($8.50 + tax), which is their limited-time entry to the Metro Vancouver Croissant Crawl (available September 25 to October 4). The croissant is perfect, as expected: flaky, airy and buttery. The filling is a silky chai-infused butter cream, topped with a crisp Parle-G style cookie. The biggest compliment, other than the flawless croissant itself, is that it's not overly sweet. The chai flavour is subtle.

A Very Changed Block on Main Street
I need to share my amusement about this block of Main Street between 12th and 13th Ave. Here's the shuffle so far this year:
- AFURI Ramen was replaced by Sushi Nami
- Goldilocks became Emeri Matcha Bar
- Odd Burger is now Elaichi Patisserie
All of these changes happened this year!
Congratulations to the Elaichi team on opening their very first shop. It's always special to watch a small local family business grow from a market table to a storefront, and we'll be back soon for round two.
Have you tried Elaichi Patisserie yet? Which croissant should I order on my next visit? Let me know in the comments!
