Dinner at The American Cheesesteak Co.

Growing up in the Philippines, I only heard of the famous Philly Cheesesteak in movies or when watching Food Network. Thus, it shouldn't come as a surprise that last Saturday was the first time I tried a Philly Cheesesteak from The American Cheesesteak Co. in Vancouver.

I have an uncle and cousins in Philadelphia, and when I visit my goal is to try a Philly Cheesesteak while in Philly. The same way I was so ecstatic to eat Japanese Katsu Curry in Japan and Vigan Empanada in Vigan.

Hubby and I went to St. Paul's Hospital for the last weekend of Lights of Hope and decided to have dinner here. Why? First, it's close to Granville Street, where we will take the bus going home and second, I remember seeing the You Gotta Eat Here episode featuring them. My sister and I are attempting to try most of the restaurants John Catucci went to. Here's a map of restaurants the show visited in BC as of Season 5.

The Philly VS New Yorker

Since it's our first time, we tried both Philly and New Yorker Cheesesteak to compare how each city likes their sandwich.

My first impression? It was hot. Not spicy hot, but it's fresh-from-the-kitchen hot. I think I burnt a part of my gums. A couple of days after the meal, I can't still feel a section of my gums.

Anyway, The Philly and New Yorker both starred shaved prime rib. The difference? New Yorker likes more tomato and lettuce into their sandwich. The Philly just includes cheese and sauteed onion.

On the other hand, the New Yorker has cheese, sauteed mushrooms, peppers + onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and roasted garlic mayo.

So which one we liked better? We agreed that we prefer The Philly.

I look forward to visiting more restaurants on the YGEH list!

Dinner at Mac Falafel

I love how diverse Canada is. Back in Manila, I usually eat at either Filipino, Chinese, or Japanese cuisine restaurants. I wouldn't know where to find great authentic Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food. Because of Canada's diversity, I get to try amazing food from different countries all over the world.

Last 2016, my colleagues and I went to Mac Falafel on their 4th Avenue branch for lunch, and I ordered their Chicken Shawarma. On the first Friday of 2018, Jomar and I had our Friday dinner here. My goal right now is to make sure hubby gets to try all the restaurants I have been to during our 2-year long-distance relationship.

Mac Falafel is a small eatery beside Noodle Box. I think people pass by this joint thinking it's a hole in a wall. They usually go straight to Romer's or Noodle Box or the Japanese restaurant on the right. But this unassuming eatery serves amazing Mediterranean food to anyone who gives it a shot. They even have a TV and upscale looking tables and chairs that you won't feel like you're in an eatery.

We were so stuffed from all the food! Be sure to try out Mac Falafel. They have a branch in 10th Avenue and 4th Avenue Vancouver, BC.

After a long, rainy day at Burnaby Village Museum, we decided to have lunch in Metrotown food instead of anywhere else.

We had the Ice Cream Parlour inside the Burnaby Village Musem. It feels like we're in the 1920s, eating at this place. We only are interested in their yummy looking cakes.

We had no particular plans for today, but we decided to go out and have a lunch date at Earls before grabbing a couple of books from the Vancouver Public Library Firehall branch.

After four hours of shopping and buying all the things we need, time to have lunch at Ryuu Japanese Kitchen!

The Appetizer menu has all the things we like about Japanese restaurants, so we end up getting Chicken Karaage and Gyoza. We also got Yam Fries just because we can.
