Reuben Sandwich from PICA

Growing up in the Philippines, I am not familiar with "Reuben Sandwich." However, when I moved to Canada and started having lunch at Blue Hat Bakery, I met "Reuben Sandwich." It's the meatiest and yummiest sandwich ever.

Blue Hat Bakery has many sandwiches that use different types of meat:

  • Reuben Sandwich uses corned beef (not the canned kind I grew up with)
  • Roast Beef Sandwich obviously uses beef
  • Chicken BLT Sandwich with avocado uses chicken and bacon
  • Ham and Cheese Sandwich uses ham
My favourite was chicken BLT because the avocado adds that extra creamy fat, but they use less of it now, so I tried the Reuben, and I couldn't move on from it. I should give the ham and cheese a try next.

Be sure to try the Reuben Sandwich (ask them to warm it up) and let me know what you think!

Japadog dinner after VanDusen Glow in the Garden

After walking around and looking at Glow in the Garden twice, we decided to grab a couple Japadog before heading home.

Lunch at The Ouisi Bistro

This morning I read this article from Vancouver is Awesome about a couple of restaurants closing in our neighbourhood of South Granville. For a couple of years, we have been living a block away from Granville Street, and we have tried a lot of restaurants nearby.

However, more places we love will close, especially along Broadway between Granville and Hemlock. The location of the new train station is going to force close more than five different restaurants in that strip alone. The goal now is to support these small businesses until the time they have to leave.

For lunch today, we decided to eat at The Ouisi Bistro. We were greeted by their hospitable and friendly servers, and we enjoyed warm comfort food while it rains outside.

Jambalaya (smoked ham, sausage, four prawns, & rice)

The Jambalaya is delicious and comforting like a mother's hug. But the Chicken Bayou Burger is such a pleasant surprise of yumminess.

I am sad to see this place close.

Update: This location is now occupied by The Breakfast Table.

Thanksgiving Dinner Date at Saku

Saku is a relatively new restaurant along West Broadway near Cambie. We noticed it a few weeks back because the number of people waiting outside is significant. We were running errands, and it just so happen they are open even if it's a holiday. They are getting ready for the dinner rush and will open their doors at 5:00 PM.

We were able to get inside at around 5:20 PM but received our food 25 minutes later. If you're starving, this might not be the place for you. But the food is worth the wait.

I love how juicy my Hire Katsu and much fattier than hubby's Rosu Katsu. I ordered the Hire Katsu Curry with Cheesy Katsu on the side. Skip the curry because, indeed, the pork is the star of the show. That's saying a lot because I love my Japanese curry and the fact that I'll eat the port without the curry sauce means something.

We also enjoyed the unlimited miso soup and an unlimited side salad. On our next visit, I'll order the Cheese Katsu.

Wednesday Night Out with Colleagues

I went to Colony Entertainment District a couple weeks ago with my husband. I just knew that I will be back soon with my colleagues. Tonight, we did go to Colony for dinner, drinks, and ping-pong. I had a rough week at work, and the cocktail drink is all I needed to feel better and get a good night's sleep.

Eat Poutine with Purpose at Craft Beer Market

Hubby and I love poutine and are excited to try as many poutine and restaurants that support Poutine with Purpose. For lunch today, we took a 2.8km walk from our house to Craft Beer Market. It was a bright sunny day in Vancouver, and it's stunning.

Eat Poutine with Purpose at Colony Entertainment District

We went to Colony Entertainment District last night to support Poutine with Purpose. What I didn't expect is to find a bar with ping pong table, arcade games, TV on sports channels, and amazing food. I'm surprised at how great my veggie burger was! I can't wait to tell my colleagues about this place. We have been thinking of doing ping pong table night somewhere in Vancouver and it seems like I just found a spot.
